Trying to figure out what the chorus of this song "MacArthur Park" means in relation to the rest of the song--the rest of the song makes sense but this chorus comes out of nowhere! And what is up with the cake? Can't put up the whole song--it's too long. You can read it here, but here's the chorus part.

the chorus reminds me of portishead glory box, but it is definitely a male voice. I heard in played while walking through TKMAXX last
year (it was played just after female of the species by Space) but I think it came out in the 1990s. I have done lots of rooting around on the web, looking through songs that use the imperial march and checking out songs listed as chillout (although it's a little more upbeat than that). It's driving me mad, any ideas really appreciated, thanks x

i can BARLEY read notes...i can make them out but it takes a while, i cant read fluently. i want to take up electric, but all i need to know is chords and tabs right? do i need to know how to read notes? or can i just look up the tabs online and play them

Before he died, my father asked for this song to be played at his memorial service (among others). I never had a chance to ask him why: does it reflect disappointment or disillusionment in his life? Or, on a lighter note--since he had a great sense of humor--was he trying to tell us not to be sad about his death? Do the lyrics reflect unrequited love for a man or woman? Exactly what do the words mean?
