Right, more details. Lead actor plays retired detective on the trail of a serial killer. He forms a relationship with single mother, but becomes so obssessed with catching killer that he uses her daughter as bait. He is sure he knows who the killer is, but needs to set a trap to prove it. In the event, the killer crashes and dies on route and mother realises how he has misused their relationship to risk her daughter as bait. She ditches him, he goes mad and becomes a reclusive alcoholic because he has blown his remaining life away, all for nothing. Ends up with him muttering and pacing around his derelict petrol station forecourt almost howling at the sun! Its really bugging me, because I thought it was jack Nicholson, but it isnt and I cant find the movie in the 2004 releases, or even 2003. Im now on a quest to find out, just for the hell of it!

What is the movie where a family moves into a house where in the attic there is a dollhouse – the dollhouse was a replica of the actual house – at the same time every night the pieces would reenact a murder that happened in the house. I think the victim put a note in a book before he was murdered and they were able to find that note that he hid. I can't for the life of me think of the title. I haven't watched it in years and even then it was on TV. Please help.

Am I the only one who thinks Matthew McConaughey resembles a young Paul Newman?
Newman in 'Cool Hand Luke', and 'The Hustler'.
I think McConaughey bears a striking resemblence to Paul at certain angles.
Or am I just way off?

The "Shannara" chronicles by Terry Brooks (Sword of, Elfstone of, etc)

"Venus Prime" novels by Paul Preuss with Arthur C. Clarke

This would really be good if it were created and overseen by Shirow Masamune, the creative mind behind Ghost in the Shell, since,... to me at least, ...it has the same feeling

"Earthclan" by David Brin

Anne McCaffrey's "Pern" novels or her novels about the "talented" such as "To Ride Pegasus," "Pegasus in Flight," etc., and "The Rowan," "Damia," "Damia's Children," etc.
