Burt Bacharach has become a songwriting legend but without Hal David's lyrics his work would just be a collection of very nice tunes. It's the words that elevate songs such as "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Walk On By", "What The World Needs Now", "I Say A Little Prayer" and "Always Something There To Remind Me" to the realms of greatness.

For some reason David's contribution is often overlooked. Far too often people refer to the songs of Burt Bacharach when what they are actually referring to is the work of Bacharach & David. Is it because the words in popular music are often regarded as being of secondary importance or has Bacharach just had better P.R.?

Whatever the reason, it seems totally unjust to me. Any views?
