All I can find on it is the song was first used in a movie called, Neptune's Daughter, and sang by Red skelton and Esther Williams. Johnny mercer wrote it and if you go to johnny mercer.com maybe you can find it...a lot of info and I couldn't make sense of it.....sorry...but if you do, please edit your question cause I'd like to know to, so I can watch it ..I'll update my answer too if I find the anwer to Cole's version being in a movie.. I found that johnny and margaret whitiing made the song famous but Frank Loesser wrote it and Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald sang Baby It's Cold Outside together also...

I believe Dean Martin's 1959 recording is the best known version. Dean Martin's voice was later digitally re-done in a version with Martina McBride.
