I do not think it is, but I hear my English teacher say it a lot. I did not think it was proper English, and that it ain't actually a real word, but I could be wrong about this.

I'm unsure about the the accuracy of the sentence which is supposed to showcase the use of a preposition. In this grammar books if defines a preposition as "a word that links a noun or pronoun to some other word in a sentence.
And the example it gives is as follow:
Jack and Jill went up the hill.
("Up" is a preposition connecting "went" and "hill").

Isn't the word "up" a verb, and not a preposition? Can someone clarify this for me please, thanks.

Seriously... I see it in too many replies...

If i put my car keys down and cant find them = I have lost my car keys.

If i win your money in a game = You lose. (Not "LOOSE")

If Manchester United are beating Man City 5-0 at half-time = Man City are losing 5-0. (NOT LOOSING)
