Try it for yourself. Tear a strip of your newspaper vertically - it comes off straight. Try it again, but tearing another strip horizontally - you get a jagged, uneven piece. Is it because of the way the paper is manufactured?

Hi all

I have seen a van in Domlur that carried an AD of a mobile library that would deliver you books "on call" - ie it is something like you could call them up and ask for a book, they would come over and deliver the book, and you must have to return it after some time. I noted their number, but lost it :( Can anyone help? Has someone used this, or seen the AD, or know anything about it? Thanks

You have a square table with four people (one on each side) sitting round it. In the centre of the table there is a large obstruction which prevents each person seeing the person directly in front of them. They are then told to raise their hand if they can see at least one woman either side of them.

In actual fact, all four people are women and so they all raise their hands. They are then told to deduce the sex of the person sitting opposite. After quite a while, one of them successfully works out that the person opposite her is also a woman.

Assuming that no cheating takes place, how could she logically come to this conclusion?

would be detrimental to their "well being"). For example I think of Amazonia trees that grow to immense heights, but at some point, "grow no more". Is there a name for this?
