They do because they believe that if they can see it you can too....up until around age 5. Same reason why they will cover their eyes and believe that you can't see them because they can't see you!!! Cute...very cute...

b/c it looks cooler and bigger if you sit closer (like a mini movie screen)...
but then you might pay for it later...
