You called an acquaintance three times and she did not return your calls, then you wrote her a letter letting her know that you called and she did not answered you. Then you receive the following note:

Although I have been having phone problems the main reason I didn't call u back is because I thought you would be in town and I wanted to avoid having to explain to you that unfortunately, for personal reasons, I would no longer be welcoming you to stay with me. Although the times you stayed with me it was good.

I know that isn't the only reason you call. I was a coward then but now I'm brave to admit it.

Help me find a quotation. I have a vague memory of a quote (perhaps from a respected literary figure, maybe Orwell) which states that the name given to a piece of legislation will always denote the opposite of the purpose of the legislation. In effect, the names of our laws are propaganda. The USA PATRIOT Act springs immediately to mind. Are you familiar with this alleged quote? Who said it and what did they say? I'm pretty sure it's not from a work of fiction (e.g., "1984") and I know it's not in Orwell's "Politics and the English Language".
