You are all wrong. The saying is actually:. What's good for the goose is What's good for the gander. It means if a female commits a crime she should get the same punishment as what a male would get for the same crime.

It means if two things are inherently equal, there should be no differentiating what they are subject to. Example: "The judge was upset that he had to go through the metal detector like everyone else entering the building, the janitor shrugged and said "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander" as he went through behind him."

Goose=female Gander=male (check the dictionary folks)
Base interpretation: what is good for one is good for the other
One example: two folks are doing the same job at work, the man gets paid more. Oh, NO! If she is doing the same work in every way, they should be paid the same salary, benefits, etc. (This example was true years back, and unfortunately, still in some places today.)

What's good for the "geese is good for the gander" means equality for all.
One bird is not better than the other. It goes back hundreds of years. Meaning one standard for one should apply to all. That's the true meaning.

Actually, a gander is an adult male goose. A gaggle is a group of geese on the ground and when in flight, they're referred to as a skein.

A "gander" is a male goose. But why is there no special noun for a female goose? Nobody looks up and says, "look, a flock of ganders".
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
