This is from Chapter 9, Exercise 9-4, #40 of Fundamentals of Technical Mathematics (2nd edition): The bones of an old mathematics professor contain 99.50 percent of the original amount of carbon 14. How long ago did she die if k = 1.238 * 10^-4 per year for C 14? (Use the formula in problem 39 and find t when m/m0 - 0.9950.)

This is from Chapter 9, Exercise 9-4, #39 of Fundamentals of Technical Mathematics (2nd edition): In Example 9-3 the half-life of tritium was determined graphically to be approximately 12 years. Using the formula for radioactive decay m = m0e^-kt, where k = 0.055 per year for tritium, find the half-life of tritium mathematically. Let m/m0 = 0.5 and solve for t.

This is from Chapter 9, Exercise 9-4, #38 of Fundamentals of Technical Mathematics (2nd edition): Interest on savings accounts is compounded daily in most banks. An approximate formula for the amount A after n year(s) compounded daily is A = Pe^rn, where P = principal and r = interest rate per year. Find the answer to problem 37 if the interest is compounded daily. (This formula is for continuous compounding, that is, compounding every instant, which is very close to daily compounding. In Virginia, banks compound continuously.)

Feeling the breeze on first day of December is like feeling the warmth of Christmas coming,
Putting up the Christmas tree and the lights is putting on my jolly for the season,
Going Christmas shopping in preparation for Christmas is getting ready to become generous,
Listening to the children talk to Santa on the radio is listening to the beliefs of joy in kids,
Seeing the colorful lights as I walk down the streets at night is seeing the stars up close.

Do i need to fix the period or commas???
THANKSSS! BIGBONUSS! :D

A sample containing 1.20 moles of helium has a volume of 32.0L/ Suppose a leak allows half of the helium atoms to escape, what would be the new volume of the gas sample? (assume P and T remain the same)

I believe that since P and T remain the same then we can use avacadros law were v1/n1=v2/n2
setting v2 by its self

v2= n2*v1/n1

ok I also know that 1.20 moles is n1 and 32.0L is v1 but n2 I dont know. It says that half of the helium atom escaped. do i divide 1.20/2 to get n2??

He wants the property to be twice as long as it is wide and he wants a uniform 20 foot clearance on all sides of the house between the house and the property lines. He would also like his house to have an area of 3,000 sq ft. Find the dimensions of the lot that he needs to purchase to build this house.

The equation for this problem is:
(x-40)(2x-40)=3,000

1.) Explain where (x-40) and (2x-40) cme from in this situation
2.)Explain why the product of these must equal 3,000

Solve this problem algebrically, using FACTORING.

Which would have the greatest kinetic energy? Me (mass = 75 kg) about to hit the ground after falling 80 meters or an average bullet (mass = 8 g) traveling 1000 m/s?

There are several steps you need to complete before calculating the KE of both objects. You must find the velocity for me just before I hit the ground and you must convert the mass of the bullet from grams to kilograms.

I know I asked this before...but im still confused about it...
