Sometimes the advice "Begin at the beginning," etc., doesn't work. If you haven't already, scribble whatever you know or think about swimming with dolphins. Then reflect on it for a bit. What's the overall impression that emerges? Beautiful? Scary? Dangerous? Spiritual? Exhilarating? Overrated?Have you done it? Would you recommend it? At this point you should be able to write a sentence that covers what you want to say about the topic, and your other scribbles can be shaped into the body of the essay.

So a thesis statement is the underlining point that you want to get across. What exactly are you witting in your essay? Are you writing why swimming with dolphins is fun?

Just state the main idea. What is your essay trying to tell the reader? What are the body paragraphs about? Just right that down. It can be as simple as: Swimming with dolphins is a very fascinating and interesting experience.
