I'm not sure whether you mean the prices of the first two items are marked up from the amounts given or whether the amounts given include the mark-up. However, for the sale prices, just do this:
Sofa - 975.00 x .30
Stereo - 459.99 x .15
The first one is pretty easy, because you're really just multiplying 975 by .3--in fact, just multiply by 3 and then put a decimal point before the last number. Then subtract the result from the original number (975).
The second is a little harder, not only because you have to do more multiplying but because you have to round up the answer to a whole number of cents. However, for that same reason, you can just take 15% of 460 and then subtract it the same way you did in the first problem. If you feel like trying it both ways, you'll see what I mean.

1) 22.35 times .35 =
2) 27 times .2 =
3) .7 times 975=
4) .85 times 459.99=
use a calculator to the arithmetic
for #1 & 2, you don'y say whether you need just the amount of markup or the final price.

Since it is a mark up you have to add, not subtract. You can do it two different ways.
1)22 (1.35) =$29.7
27 (1.20)= $32.4
or you could use the formula:
22 (.35) +22= $29.7
----------------
For the mark down:
975 (.30)= $292.5; 975-292.5=682.5
459.99 (.15)= $68.9985; 459.99-69=390.99
OR you could do
975 (.70)
459.99 (.85)
----------------
I think...
hope I helped.

For the markup, multiply by 1 + the markup, for example, $22 with a 35% markup is 22 x 1.35.
For a discount, do just the reverse.
The sofa is 975 divided by 1.30.

for the first two, find 35% of 22 and add it to 22(use proportions!!)
example) 35/100=x/22 (cross multiply!!!)
for the second two problems....do the same thing just subtract the percentage!!!
there you go!

1. 22x35 = 875 then move 2 spaced to the left
so it will be 8.75
then add 22 and 8.75
answer: 30.75
2. do the same thing as #1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. 975x30 = 29250 move 2 spaces to the left
so it will be
$292.50
2. do the same thing as #1
