can u help me with my homwork? all u need to do is add or subtract. here is a few problems and if u have the answer, can u show me how u got it? (the slash is means its a fraction)
1) 3/5 + 1/5
2) 6/9 - 1/3
3) 5/16 + 1/16
4) 8/9 - 2/3

1) 3/5 + 1/5.
Since both are over the same denominator (5), all you have to do is add the numerators ( 3 and 1). This gives you the answer of 4/5.

2. 6/9 - 1/3
These are not over the same denominator. However, 3 goes into 9, so what you do is multiply 1/3 by 3/3 to yield 3/9. Now, since both fractions have the same denominator, you can subtract the numerators (6 - 3 = 3). 3/9 simplified is 1/3.

3. 5/16 + 1/16
Same denominator, so add the numerators together to get 6/16. Simplify by dividing both by two to get 3/8.

4. 8/9 - 2/3.
Different denominator, so multiply 2/3 by 3/3 to get 6/9. Now, subtract the numerators to get 2/9.

Addition and subtraction with fractions must be done over a common denominator.
