In my school, the trick to properly ansswer an open ended question is called the ROPE-W strategy. ROPE-W means...
R-restate the question
O- your own opinion
P- proof from the text
E- explain
W- Wow! use a personal connection
an example answer would be:
(R) Ghangis Khan killed his hunting hawk because he was angry. (O) Ghanghis khan killed his hunting hawk out of anger because it would not let him drink the water from the trickling stream, because there was a giant snake was oozing poison into the stream. (E) According to the text "There was a huge snake dripping poison into the murky stream, and his petite hunting hawk, prevented him from drinking the contaminated water." (W) Just like Ghangis Khan and his hawk, my dog, Goddard protects me from dangers too.
The (W) part is optional, but preferred. You can even add more to each part, but the minimum should equal up to one paragraph. Using this strategy is well worth it! try it at school one day. Any questions???
