Example:

"You have no idea how (messed) up this is getting," said Morris

"I think it's possible to come up with something, but it's not going to happen until the last minute in the (legislative) session," Hooser said.

The second example seems obvious that the writer is clarifying what the speaker is saying but in many examples the speakers sentance would be incomplete or make no sense without the parenthesiesed word. So what is the deal?

I am in my junior year of college, have been going part time for years. Now I have moved to another state - out of state tuition and transfer of credits is no fun, and there's a baby on the way! Computer software is not an exact science. But unfortunately computer languages are learnt as though they are a treatise on Maths or Physics. Design Automation software make people think that they deisgn, while they really do not. Arbitrary and unbound methods and procedures are assumed as sound processes. We may soon have people who do not understand even Newton's Laws.
