I have been wondering for some time about what i should study if I go to unniversity. So I was wondering.
What is the study of Philosophy ? So what you do?
What jobs can you go onto?
What Unniversity in Birmingham, England does this course.
Has anyone else done it? What were their experiences?
This would be so helpful, thank you.

Philosophy answers all the questions science can't. It answers all the why's anybody can have.
Why must we suffer? seems to be the final question philosophers have tried again and again to answer, but have always been misinterpreted in their answers to cause a following of the wrong kind. Nietzsche created Fascism, though in his works you can clearly see his anger towards it. Socrates created democracy, but in his writings also you'll find where our view of democracy went haywire.
Many governments are removing philosophy as a study because it affects their politics.
So, if you are thinking of jobs in your future, don't go into philosophy. Philosophers need seperation from the 'mob' to come up with new ideas.

Philosophy can be roughly translated as hunger for wisdom.
It is basically something we all have in us nl the ability to wonder at certain things in life (the how what where of things)
unfortunately many people loose this gift while growing up and start taking things for granted. If you can still be amazed by the wonders of life take philosophy it'll help get even more amazed

believe it or not, philosophy centres around mathematics as a tool to define and utilise logical thinking. Wittgenstein said "The object of philosophy is the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a theory but an activity. A philosophical work consists essentially of elucidations. The result of philosophy is not a number of ‘philosophical propositions’, but to make propositions clear. Philosophy should make clear and delimit sharply the thoughts which otherwise are, as it were, opaque and blurred."
Its a hard subject!

The word "Philosophy" is from Greek, and translates as "Love of wisdom". I think it is the contemplation of what is good and bad, what is real, what is beauty, what is true, how we can know something. It borders on religion somewhat. Aristotle had a conception of what God is. Logic is a branch of philosophy that defines what are fallacies in statements of reasoning. Aristotle defined 10 "kategoria" (categories) of assertions that we can make about a thing. He was the first to write about how humans think. So, he was the first information engineer.

Any idea how much a philosopher earns?
You have a problem, you look in the yellow pages, phone one up - then they arrive four hours late and charge you a £50 call-out fee.
And then they tell you that we don't really exist!
