You can actually do a lot with an associates degree in specific fields where the AS is the key to entry. I think the top ones, the ones where you're most likely to find a decent, and decent-paying, job upon graduation, are:

Registered Nurse
Dental Hygienist
Funeral Director
Administrative Assistant
Legal Secretary
Engineering Technician
Court Reporter
Radiological Technician
Respiratory Therapist
Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Automotive Body Repairer
Paralegal
Cardiovascular Technologist
Machinist
Surgical Technologist

So a lot of health care and machinery.

Actually, there are a lot of fields that are really short on people that only require an Associates degree - and a few just ask for certificates. However, most of these jobs are usually technician related, and very few companies will pay to relocate you.

For example, I work for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL, and we're desperate for engine specialists, people with manufacturing knowledge, and people who know AutoCAD, but we can't afford to bring people in from out of state for the positions.

I think what you need to decide first is what's more important to you: where you live, or what you're doing for a living. If you're happy where you are (or have someplace specific in mind), but don't really care about the kind of work you'll be doing, then start looking in the local papers and online job sites for the kinds of jobs advertised the most that require an Associates.

If what you do for a living is more important, then it might be helpful to try to pinpoint a couple companies you'd want to work for, then see what jobs are in the highest demand.

I wish you the best of luck!

Why not just got for your bachelors degree? You really cant do much with an associates degree. To get your bachelors degree you only have to go to school for another 2 years. Then you have more job opening than with an associates.

Sorry to tell you, but Associates Degrees are generally worthless unless they are in some specific field like nursing or dental hygene or soemthing like that.

I would suggest you use your Associates Degree to transfer to a 4 year University as a transfer student. You'll start out as a Junior.

Depends, what is it in?

Business may be a good idea - they like the fact that you have the dedication for further study, no matter what it is in (more or less).

Or consider actually taking a Bachelors, which may allow you to get a higher job in the subject you've chosen.
