I am thinking about enrolling my son in Job Corps, and was reviewing the website. I have however, had two people share with me that their children did not like the program and ended up coming back home - one parent shared with me that after she dropped her son off at a center, she spent the night with family in that state and then headed home and her son had beat her home and was waiting for her...and it was a bad experience for their children. It was vaguely mentioned to me that the centers were "something else"....and neither would elaborate on the specifics of what that meant bcuz they said it has its own reputation???? If there are positive stories out there, please share. the website doest give personal testimonies of success stories....and my son would be 16 at the time of enrollment. He needs to do something positive for himself but I am not tossing him out there in who knows what? seems to me a governmnet facility would be in a better standing.....

When exactly did Ebonics as we know it come about?
Or was it a more gradual changing of language that slowly came to be what it is today?
Did Ebonics grow out of a mixture of the Southern twang and an African accent?

At many special school functions there is a particular group of kids who are 'very much favored' in regards to being chosen for special roles, activities, etc.. I know this goes on all over the place, but I don't feel that it is right. These childrens' parents all grew up together, they all live near one another, go to the same churches, and basically have a good support group within their group. So the kids all know and play together frequently. Having not grown up here, I don't know many of these folks, although I have been a volunteer in different capacaties for years here, often benefitting said kids/families, but still do not feel welcome. There is a heavy 'queen bee'/bullying attitude involved here. I feel that although my kids aren't part of this clique, they should be able to participate in school functions just as much as the 'bees'. Am I stepping over the line by going to the school and making my attitude known about this?

I have read many books and articles on the subject. I am thinking of beginning an MBA program next fall and I wanted to see if anybody had good or bad experiences with either type. Not so much the cost, but rather the value and experience I am interested in learning about. For instance, does an online MBA deprive a learner in any way?

I am curious. I have a degree in teaching, but not my permanent certification. When I got married and started having children, I stopped looking for teaching jobs and just worked part time for extra money. I am really looking to go back to work at a "real" job, but have little experience in teaching, plus need to finish the certification. I know the cert. does not take long, but still am ambivalent about doing this. I know I have a lot of weaknesses, such as being disorganized if I don't push myself and not very good at discipline. Do these things ever get easier? For a while I told myself I shouldn't teach because of these traits, but now I have second thoughts.
I enjoy children, am creative and intelligent. I was an elementary education major. I did preschool teaching, but found I did not enjoy working with children that young. I was thinking maybe early elementary up to 4th grade, I am really a book lover and get excited when children read.
What do you think?

"Excuse me, young man, said Ms. Tittle dumping a pile of small bills and change onto the counter,"could I trouble you for a $20 bill?"
Mrs. Tittle pulled out a stamped, addressed envelope, explaining it was her son's birthday and that she always sent him $20 on his birthday. The clerk happily handed her a twently which Ms. Tittle quickly stuffed into the envelope and dropped into her purse.
"Oh, excuse me, Ma'am," stammered the young clerk,"there's only $19 here."
"I'm sosorry," apologized an embarrassed Ms. Tittle.
"Here, take your money back," she said, handing him the addressed envelope while taking back her bills and change.
"Please keep the envelope handy while I run out to the car. I'm sure I must have a dollar in chage between the seats." Strangely Ms. Tittle never returned.

Why not?
