After all you have to wear them in a car or aircraft and in view of the increase in speed of trains is it not safer in case of accident.

the train is 14 minutes late but not classed as late by central trains, recently in japan we travelled on the bullet train, if it is six seconds behind it is classed as late, 25 seconds behind they hold a enquiry, do you think central trains should recruit some japanese railway workers to sort out the problems

I want to travel by train to see my brother but Amtrak only runs certain routes. It would take an indirect route of 25 hours, to reach a 6 hour drive.
Are there other trains or kind of transportation (Other than driving or flying)

I live close to railroad tracks. Every now and then, I'll hear one coming through, usually at a low speed, and hear something sound like it's winding up or spooling up. It only lasts about 1/2 - 1 second. What is this sound?

Okay, here is my whacked idea for the evening:

Could there be a 'mobile town'? Could there be a town of a few thousand people that move up and down the coast in a freight-train caravan as a comunity? They would continually move to optimal climate every few months. The comunity would pay like $500 each to move about four times a year to optimal climate. Kind of like mobile homes, but bigger. Could the prices be compatible w/ homes? Would the savings in heating and cooling, offset most of the moving expenses?

Eurostar trains will be routed to St Pancras starting next November. Anyone knows why Waterloo station won't be used any more ? What is the problem with it ?

Is it banned in any station full stop, or is there a certain criteria. I can't see how a completely open platform (not roof and no wall due to track being both sides, can be an inclosed space.

Am I correct?

Most trains have powered exterior doors, that open with the push of a button, once the system has been energised (usually by the conducter).

There are clear instructions, stating "press button when illuminated", or words to that effect. Despite this, many people push the button when it is not illuminated, with no effect. Why do they do this? Why not just wait for it to illuminate? I just don't get it.

I know that various types of locomotive's produce different amount of horse power. Here's the question: A single locomotive (any type) about what would be the average speed it could gain in 0 to 4 seconds on take off.

Any smart A** answer will be reported for abuse, Thank you.
