Are road signals controlled by logic and timers or is it controlled by someone sitting somewhere? Do the signal intervals change during rush hour or is there is any built in logic that senses the traffic and trigger the signals? What are the variables on which traffic signal work and do the logic and interval change during different times of the day or change depending on the intensity of traffic?

around in these big gas guzzling pickup trucks. Everyone around where I live here in southern Ohio drives a truck it seems. Even old ladies and people who could afford a nice car or Corvette or something. I mean if i had the money some of these people have I would drive a Vette or something cool. But a pickup truck that gets like 12 miles per gallon? Mabye everyone thinks there like Garth Brooks or something I dont know any help here?

This often happens when there is plenty of space to merge.

Is it because they should be first? Are they the best? The coolest?

I know the speed limit is the same in all lanes, but the far left lane is designated as a "passing lane" and used to pass slower vehicles. If you are not passing and are driving the speed limit (or under the speed limit), why would you drive in the far left hand lane? I can never figure this one out.

Why dont the goverments bring back fuel rationing to help save energy and the ozone. It would mean cleaner air to breath less traffic.

I got caught for speeding earlier for doing 40 ion a 30 and It was by a gatso. See, now I thought gatso's couldn't flash you from the front but this one did. Is there anything I can do to not get the points. the fine is ok(ish) but the point is gonna cost me about 500 quid (insurnace)

I have heard of people doing safety courses and not getting points. Has anyone got any infomation please?

Thanks

p.s. Ok I know if I was speeding when I shouldn't have been I deserve it but I could really do without people telling me that and rubbing it in. Thanks

I am trying to decide if to commute or to split households and live in a different city from my husband (young couple, no kids). I'm starting a new job soon, and the commute time would be about 1 hour 15 minutes one way. I've commuted at different times 45 minutes and 1 hr in the past, but at most 4 days a week. I'm not sure about doing 1:15 5 days a week... and we would need to get a better car too... but would it be worth saving a little money and time to be living apart? What do you think? (Thanks in advance for any thoughts.)

Please confirm if these 2 tips regarding gas conservation are facts or myths:
1. staying/shifting to a lower gear, NEUTRAL specially, will stretch gas mileage.
2. Not using the car airconditioner will stretch gas mileage.

Any real and tested truths regarding vehicle gas conservation?

There is a Hess gas station in Fuquay-Varina, NC on Hwy 55 that I always get gas at.
For the past 4-5 weeks it has been at $2.59 per gallon for regular.
I passed it today and it was $2.69 per gallon for regular. Up 10 cents.
It was $2.59 for a long time, why is it higher now?

The other gas stations round it went up 20 cents. They are $2.79 per gallon.

Coming out of the neighborhood onto a four lane road with a median. There are no cars coming on the first two lanes but there are cars on the last two lanes. So am I allowed to get to the median and then when the last two lanes are clear I proceed on to it.

You know the big circle you drive around to get to your designated street. I guess like Dupont circle....I go through at least 3 each morning and everyone gets to them and just become completely dumb...like, "you go...", "ok I'll go"..it's like a twisted four way stop, accept you have to keep going. So what's the real purpose of these Round Abouts? Not sure if that's the right name...

I am interested in commuting to Manhattan quickly on one occasion, and am wondering if this is feasible by starting at the Secaucus Junction train station, in Secaucus, New Jersey, near exit 15X from the New Jersey turnpike. There is apparently no public parking available, but is it reasonable to expect to be able to park nearby?
Thank you.
