The enviroment, energy saving and care of the ozone is all just smoke screen!

The powers at be want us all to be fuel efficient and conserve energy and the enviroment????

That will be why a JUMBO JET takes off every second from this country taking morons away to burn in the sun for a week, before bringing them back. If they want to have an impact they should ration air-travel NOT car fuel!!!! So there is no serious argument here (and I haven't even got started on coal and gas power stations)!

Those of us that do not have buses/trains/trams etc etc passing even five miles from our homes every day (let alone hour) rely on cars for transport now that ALL of our services have been 'rationalised' into enormous centres serving thousands of people from miles and miles around!

We now need to travel everywhere for hospitals, supermarkets, schools and in fact.....just about everything! If they rationed motor fuel, How would we live, and how would your food etc be delivered?

Na, lets ration air travel, at least then, those of us with no interest in travel could sell our ration to those that 'HAVE' to travel 1000's of miles to get skin cancer!

Traffic would reduce if they were more careful whom they issued licences to and only issued licences to drive cars under 1000cc to everybody (regardless of wealth) except proffessional drivers (after another test).

And regards air pollution and cars, how come cars pollute so much when they have had expensive catalysts in the exhaust since the early 90's that are supposed to completely clean up the exhaust emissions!

The main reason that the governments will not do this is that the public will not stand for it. Any government that tried to do it would immediately get voted out of power. It is much better to decrease petrol consumption by letting the price go up than by trying to ration it.

And less revenue.Need I say anymore. Never forget petrol is actually a waste product. If the oil companies can not sell it they will just burn it off

it is a complete waste of time the air is cleaner now than it was fifty years ago the reason we have this co2 hoo haa is to raise money through unfounded fear the biggest producer of co2 is the sea but you have trouble collecting tax from it

Too many problems with those who need to drive their cars ie, disabled, school runs, teachers, police all needing to get to work. Not to mention politicians and council officers, health workers etc etc
