My father died earlier this year and I am the beneficiary. I received life insurance and got a 401K that I closed out. I know life insurance is not taxable. My problem is I don't know if my father has filed taxes in the past or not. He lived in LA and had little to do with his family. I believe that he might also owe back child support in WA. Will that affect me?? How do I find out??

I need it for the 2007 year, my former employer says that it will be mailed to my address that they have. I have moved since changing jobs and no longer have access to the mail at the old address. After they have been mailed, I can get a replacement mailed to my current address from my former employer for a 10.00 replacement fee. But I don't know how long thats going to take.

So I am 17 years old, I go to high school as a senior. Currently living with both my parents. They support me 100% I made 5216.70 this year before taxes. My earnings statement (tax section) saids:

Social Secuirty tax - 323.44
Medicare Tax - 75.64
Oregon Wbf Tax - 9.26

I’m curious to know what tax deductions I can take in the following situation, if any:

I own rental property. In the past 12 months (and 2 tenants), I did not receive rent for a total of 4 months (I’ve had great luck with tenants this year!). Also, the rent is only ¾ the mortgage, so I pay ¼ of the mortgage out of pocket every month.

I know I can deduct maintenance and repairs on the home. Can I deduct proprty management fees, leasing fees, court fees for the evictions and is there any deduction for the loss of the 4 months of rental income while a tenant was still occupying the property during the eviction process?

Please let me know if more information is needed for a more accurate answer, and thank you in advance for any information.

I am 20 years old, I have my own apartment I pay all the bills there, (I do come home sometimes for a few weeks), I have my own car for which I pay my own note and insurance. I also pay my cell-phone bill She only gives me money for gifts at Birthday and Holidays time (probably about $100) each time. I want her to stop claiming me on her taxes, but she will not. I want to claim myself. What can I do?

We are a small group in Oklahoma with only foster homes, and don't want to go all the way with the costly 501c3. Someone has mentioned a way to have donations tax deductible without it. We would get some more donations from people if they could have it as a deduction. This person said we would be similar to a 501c3 non profit, but we would not be able to get grants.

I now have my own place, car and everything. Will I get more back, since I am filing "Independant", because I no longer live with or depend on my parents? Also, what exactly can you get a tax credit on (ie, being a full-time student, college books, gas, clothes for work, etc.....)? I'm really nervous about the possibility of having to pay taxes due to changing my status! Thanks!

I bought an item at Wal-Mart in a nearby city where the sales tax is higher than in my city. I returned this item in my city. When I was given my refund, I was given the sales tax for the city I live in, not the city that I bought the item in. Does anyone know if I should have been refunded the sales tax that I paid since it was higher?

OUR LLC IS CLASSIFIED IN THE IRS' TERMS AS A PARTNERSHIP AND WE JUST OPENED THIS YEAR SELLING ONLINE. WE WANT TO START PAYING OURSELVES OUT BUT ARE NOT SURE HOW...WE HAVE ONE EMPLOYEE ALREADY WHO GETS PAID THROUGH QUICKBOOKS PAYROLL. I HAVE READ SOMETHING ABOUT OWNER'S DRAW, BUT AM NOT SURE IF I SHOULD BE PAYING MYSELF AND PARTNER THROUGH PAYROLL WITH TAXES TAKEN OUT OR JUST A REGULAR COMPANY CHECK...? ALSO, IF WE PAY OURSELVES WITH A COMPANY CHECK AND WAIT TO HAVE THE TAXES TAKEN OUT, HOW DO WE SHOW PROOF OF INCOME? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE SO GREATLY APPRECIATED, AS WE ARE BOTH IN OUR EARLY 20'S AND HONESTLY HAVE VERY LITTLE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TAX ISSUES.

I am not affected by any of the forms that are included in the delay of processing tax returns (Form 8863, Education Credits
Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits
Schedule 2, Form 1040A, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers
Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit
Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit) So will the IRS still wait until Feb. 11 to process my tax returns? The only reason I'm courious is we are leaving to go to Disney World on Jan. 18 and even though we have plenty of spending money, it would be nice to have that extra chunk of change to take with us so we could do even more for the kids
