I had 30% at my last job and thought that was rather high! Mind you I got money back..

North America is a big place, it wouldn't be possible to get an average. We all get paid on different schedules and different amounts. I have about 3,000 a year withheld but that is my choice. After deducting my retirement money I don't have much left to pay tax on.

You control that you know?!?!?!

You determine how much is witheld by how you fill out your W2.
