I need to conduct a study on the Efficient Market Hypothesis. I would like to use the UK stock market to test the following hypothesis:
Share prices in the UK stock market will react fully and instantaneously to information provided in relation to specific events under the assumptions of semi strong efficiency within the EMH model.

Can anyone suggest how I can test this, how would I carry out an observational study - what calculations / formulas would I use??

Thanks

The Indian markets, for that matter, any emerging markets seem to follow suit with the US markets. If the US closes in green, everyone expects a gap up opening here in India and If a red closing in wall st, then a red opening in India. Why does this happen? Are there Foreign Investors who buy and sell on a daily basis only based on US markets and not based on the fundamentals of the company they are investing in? Can anyone explain this phenomenon... What has US stocks got anything to do with opening of Indian or any other emerging markets?

I am a value investor and been in the market for quite some time now. Almost all of my portfolio is the Vanguard value funds for Small, mid and Large cap. Also I hold a big position in the REIT index fund. But almost all these securities have been doing really bad for the past 2-3 Qtrs. I see my portfolio going down in value every Qtr. Should I trade positions for some growth funds ? What do think future holds for Value and REIT funds?

I calculated on a website that if I contribute $15,000 a year to 401k and my employer matches some of it, I should have about 13-17 million in 40 years. Is this really true? I use a couple of oneline calcualtors.

I am thinking what if one of the holding companies like hathway DECIDES TO BUY EVERYTHING like they buy out Wal-mart then use those profits and TAKE OVER STARBUCKS then Microsoft then apple, etc. etc. I WOULD BE LIKE WATER GOING down a hill, and is it possible? I was thinking about it and it probably isn't for human and ECONOMIC REASONS but I am not sure, are you? IT would mean way less trading AND MAY MAKE IT HARD TO PROFIT OFF STOCK INVESTMENTS. OPINIONS PLEASE????

Merrill Lynch recently lost around $8 billion of their own money on bad investments in their in-house accounts. Their "Merrill Lynch" branded mutual funds have never done well. Obviously, the work done by their research department is worse than worthless. So why don't their customers jump ship? How do they keep getting new ones?

You know, i've been trading for at least more than 2 years. Literally, i've been sitting on the computer at least 6 hours a day. There was not one day, that I didnt sit on the computer studying the market. I've bought many things, and got scammed with my money. I've deposited money that was my monthly's salary, and lost all of those money, down to less than a dollar. I've tried every indicator there is. I retested one month, last month, thought it would refresh my mind, and give me good ideas. No, not at all, it didn't help. So, is threre anyone out there, that could help me? I promise, if you want me to keep it a secret, I will be glad to, I promise. But, if you want me to spread it, I will too. I keep promises, trust me. Right now, I am writing and studying the market, losing $200 on a position right now. :(

I don't know what to do. Can anyone out there, be really nice to someone in need, I would be the happiest man in history. I am in huge debt, I don't know what to do. Please!
