i.e. Yahoo is trading at about $27 i would buy a LEAP JAN09 17.5 strike at $11.15 and sell/write a JAN08 30 strike for $1.15 total cost is $10 ($1000 for the contract), and as the calls I write expire I would write new ones for the next month until I get exercized (in the first trade that would be at $30 for a $250 profit on a $1000 investment) or offset the LEAP close to expiration, always making sure the strike price was high enough so that if excersized I would make money counting in the premiums I collected. Basically this is similar to standard covered calls but more leverage (I belive the proper term for this strategy would be a "Diagonal Spread"). Is there any downside of using LEAPS instead of Stock that I am missing besides the obvious time constraint where I have a little over a year to pull a profit as opposed to buying the stock where I have as long as it takes? Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.

I am thinking to go into the stock market. My idea is to trade stocks of well established companies. Looking to make a small profit. I would appreciate it if any one who has experience with day trading can give me some advice. Which sector to pick?. What stratgey to use?.
The strategy that I am working on is to pick companies with good fundementals, but then use technical analysis to do the short term trading. I don't want to go for the long term investment becuase I don't like how the stock market has been behaving lately (mostly a down trend).

I was told this is supposed to be the best time for the Stock Market but it's been going down recently.

Is there any good websites or books where I could learn about the stock market?

MR SALIHU AHMED
AUDITING AND ACCOUNTING UNIT.
AFRICA DEVELOPMENT BANK(ADB)
OUAGADOUGOU BURKINA-FASO.

Dear Friend
(TOP SECRET)

I am Mr Salihu Ahmed the director in charge of auditing and accounting section of Africa Development Bank, (ADB) Ouagadougou Burkina-Faso in West Africa with due respect and regard. I have decided to contact you on a business transaction that will be very beneficial to both of us at the end of the transaction.

During our investigation and auditing in this bank, my department came across a very huge sum of money belonging to a deceased person who died on 16th febuary 1998 in a plane crash and the fund has been dormant in his accountwith this Bank without any claim of the fund in our custody either from his family or relation before our discovery to this development.

Although personally, I keep this information secret within myself to enable the whole plans and idea be Profitable and successful during the time of execution. The said amount was U.S $9.2M (NINE million TWO hundred Thousand United States dollars).

Meanwhile all the whole arrangement to put claim over this fund as the bonafide next of kin to the deceased, get the required approval and transfer this money to a foreign account has been put in place and directives and needed information will be relayed to you as soon as you indicate your interest and willingness to assist us and also benefit your self to this great business opportunity.

In fact I could have done this deal alone but because of my position in this country as a civil servant(A Banker),we are not allowed to operate a foreign account and would eventually raise an eye brow on my side during the time of transfer because I work in this bank.

This is the actual reason why it will require a second party or fellow who will forward claims as the next of kin with affidavit of trust of oath to the Bank and also present a foreign account where he will need the money to be re-transferred into on his request as it may be after due verification and clarification by the correspondent branch of the bank where the whole money will be remitted from to your own designation bank account.

I will not fail to inform you that this transaction is 100% risk free. On smooth conclusion of this transaction, you will be entitled to 45% of the total sum as gratification, while 55% will be for me. Please, you have been adviced to keep "top secret" as I am still in service and intend to retire from service after I conclude this deal with you.

I will be monitoring the whole situation here in this bank until you confirm the money in your account and ask me to come down to your country for subsequent sharing of the fund according to percentages previously indicated and further investment, either in your country or any country you advice us to invest in.

All other necessary vital information will be sent to you when I hear from you

I look forward to receive your mail

Yours faithfully,

Mr Salihu Ahmed

I have about $1000 in an ESOP account that was started when I was with another employer. I am currently working for another company and would like to invest in the stock where I am working. Can I withdraw the money from my ESOP account and put it in another account to reinvest? If so, what is the least expensive way to do this? Do I need a broker? How much would that cost? Any help would me most appreciated.

I try to keep my investments in diversified mutual funds. Currently have equal percentages in Real Estate (REIT), International Equity, Mid Cap Growth, and Large Cap Growth. I have no idea how these compare with other fund families. I'd really like to meet with a financial planner, but don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Would a spell of good weather help the market?

I have an investing Question. Regarding like stocks. I'm new to stocks. But I'm wondering something, if you own shares in a company, and say it faces a buyout?

Can I refuse to sell and remain a shareholder (even if the majority of shareholders accept the deal) and the acquiring company is asking to acquire 100% of shares? Or can they force you out at some point basically sending you a check and telling you you're no longer a shareholder?

Example. Say I had shares in Earthlink and suppose Verizon or AT&T etc. decide to buy out Earthlink. Now suppose the majority of shareholders agree they will sell their shares but I don't agree. If I keep my shares even if the company wants 100% ownership can I remain a shareholder indefinitely until I'm *ready* to sell? Or even asking for more $$$ down the road for my shares? Or can the buyer say "All you will get is this much per share, here's your check which you must accept, or we will tally you as uninterested shareholder" or something?

From various trust funds i have £25,000 to invest, I plan to do regular £3,000 ISA's, but I went to see an IFA, who said to invest in Equity bonds, however now with the current state of the stock markets, and the fact that I would be charged 5% commission, twice, one from the IFA and one from the equity bonds. Should I leave it in a 6.20% interest rate account?

I have a family member with a bond fund. She is getting a 5.75% yield (monthly dividend / the value of her holdings for that month) yet she has watched the price of the fund drop from $9.69 (per share) to $9.31. She is concerned that she has reached a point where the investment won't recover (she is retired).
While the yield (monthly dividend) is good, the value of her holdings has dropped $3,000 (due to share price decrease). Since US interest rates aren't rising too my knowledge (Feds keep cutting their rates) why is the price decreasing? Should she bail? If not, why not (she is retired and has a low risk tolerance)

Thanks
