A scenario was brought up where if you had 2 million what would you do? My first thought was to put it in annual CD's and live off the interest (Assuming compounded and after being taxed on it, would be about 80k a year income.) and then Will the rest once a goner. Is this even a good idea though? I mean a bank insures 100k max right? So to be safe, that would mean you'd have to make CD's in over 20 banks of CD's right? (It doesnt matter how many accounts, the max they cover in one bank is 100k?) With the goal that at the end of each year, before the interest is removed, it would have to be less than or equal to 100k right?
Is there a better way to do this and have your money SAFE?
Just a concept thought, nothing thats really happening BTW :(
But geez, wouldn't people with money over 100k in a single bank be concerned?
Lots of topics to cover I know but thanks to all with thorough answers.
The formula I came up with was Pe^RT and used something safe, 5% so 2mil/22 banks at 5%

I own 5% equity in a store which I an 20 others made a deal for, for 2 million. The person who sold it too us used to make about 220,000 a year and now the STORE still makes about that and we split the profits. Anyway we want money from investors ro GROW and open new ones as the store does well and all you have to do in a corporation is repeat a process that works. So we need money from investors and in turn will try and give them a capitol gain on their investment; Anyway what is the best course of action I figured out some math and if we gave 40% equity to investors we could open another store but that is way too much Is there anything else we can do? WE really want to have an IPO HOW CAN WE DO THAT and if we can't have an IPO now how can we use it later to get money?

I mean seriously or are they just against people who make some money without having to work for it? How is this different than people on public assistance (getting money w/o earning it?) Like my grandmother who has been investing for the past 44 years (strictly buy and hold) and today she gets close to 26K in dividends each year.....YET she has never made more than 50K (earned income) in one year. That just goes to show you that long periods of time (30+ years) will do wonders for most people in the markets. Unfortunately 62% of Americans cash out their 401ks on every job switch so they will never see those benefits of long term steady investing!!!! Not to mention we are a society obsessed with the short-term (both socially and financiallY) which probably explains why 62% of people cash out their retirement savings everytime they switch jobs.

Why do people on the left hate the stock market?

I bought Jan 08 strike price 40 calls of a stock currently trading at 28$. What happens if in the next two months there is a buyout of the company for 36$ cash. Are my options worthless? What f the buyout is for 36$ of the other company's stock? Do I get new options in the buyer based on some complicated formula or do my options go worthless?

Can anyone discuss quantitatively of how you would evaluate these competing projects.

Division A
Increasing the investment in Receivables in hopes of generating additional sales and profit.
The total upfront investment would be $10M, and cash flows from year one to infinity would be 1,700,000 per year

2) Division B
Carrying 45 days of inventories instead of 30 days, in hopes of reducing the cost of lost sales.
This new policy requires a total upfront investment of $10Million, and cash flows from year one to infinity would be 1,500,000 per year.

In both cases the financial projections are reasonable, and both investments are strategically equally relevant to H.
