The market value of stocks inflated, and as prices of stocks rose, people got nervous and started massive wave sell stocks. I don't get how this played a role in the Depression. Isn't this good because if stocks rise, then you sell it, you'll make profit.

I am 28 and have been investing in 401K's since my first job at the age of 21. I have lost money every year. Good economy. Bad econony,. I have done money market, done managed risk, changed plans and risk levels. No matter what I do, it keeps losing. Every change I research the 5 10 and 15 year averages and they always do great until I invest. I'm losing faith in the 401K process. I just took a new job and I wont be vested until 3 years of service, and not 100% until 5 years. I dont plan to stay there that long. Right now they ONLY fund that is making money under my employers plan in the money market which is making 1/4 of 1% interest. I know yanking the cash out is an automatic loss but is it time to stop putting money in the plan an investing it elsewhere instead (CD's maybe?).... Thoughts?

I assume that United States Federal Reserve System controls money supply by creating money. But how much per year? I don't see this info in government fiscal budget. Something like $200 billions = 2% of GDP?? (I guessed this number based on inflation rate).

A friend of mine has several LLC companies under his name. Over a year ago, he asked me to invest in a new company that he is going to open up, I will be a silent partner, and one of his other company (he is the sole member) will manage the operation. I gave him $70K, and we signed an agreement. But now it's been over a year, there is no new company and there is no sign of operation, and he did not even register the new company. I could hardly find him. I finally found him and he told me the money was lost when getting inventory in, and he lost his own money too. but there is no paperwork. In the meantime he bought a new luxury car. The whole thing just doesn't smell right. Do you think he is a fraud? Can I go to police to report this? How do I recover my money? What do you think I should do next? Thanks for your help.

My dad has just come into heritance of a coconut plantation in India. All this while, we have been living in Singapore as an average income family. So that is why we know nothing of how to operate a coconut plantation.

I would like to know more on operating these type of plantations, how they cost, the returns etc.

Additional info: There are 75,000 mature trees.
The documents are already settled.

I'll appreciate any USEFUL info. SELLING THE PLANTATION IS NOT AN OPTION. This is like a gold mine. Thanks.

You are buying a company NOT betting it all on red 13. Buying a stock is no different than buying a small business, flipping a house, etc. It may work out or not. I'm just sick and tired of ignorant people putting down stocks especially women and their money market/ CD fetish ( then we wonder why most women can never afford to retire even ones that worked all their lives....5% isn't going to cut it especially after inflation and taxes). I mean what are the odds of WB, BAC, GE, JNJ, NYX and countless of other cash machines with solid business going down under? Hell I just don't get it why people think like that? What do you think?

I would like to start a website where people can invest in my portfolio making me a discretionary broker. Is this a good idea? What are the legal implications? What should I know to get started if at all? Though Im doin well without it I think this idea would give me liquidity and leverage, as well as a percentage of my clients gains.
