I'm finding it a little hard trying to comprehend what a put option is, since it doesn't make sense NOT to buy one. Is it sort of like an insurance against a dropping stock? If I bought a stock at $100, and buy a put option to sell it at $80 and the stock drops to $50, does it mean I can sell it all for $80? Can someone explain this clearly?

What happens when a private company merges into a public company already trading on an exchange? Are the existing shareholders shares of stock worth anything, and if they are, what is the value of the existing shares? Ex: If "ABC" company is trading on an exchange and is a "clean shell", what is the value of the shares after they merge with "XYZ" company? Do the existing shareholders get bought out or are they allowed to keep their shares and just roll over into the new company with a new name. Who sets the new price for the shares to be traded under the new name?

If I see a tick of +200 or higher, and trin of .9 or less, does that mean it is a good time to buy the stock? Or do I have that backwards?

I know nothing is an exact science, but generally speaking, what are the tick and trin values to look for when I am ready to buy and when I'm ready to sell stock?

I would like to start investing in Penny stocks. I have an account with Scottrade.com.

1-Is there any tutorial or comprehensive book for penny stock investors?

2-I have heard about softwares that help you in deciding when to buy and when to sell. Is that true? If so, what softwares do you recommend.

3-I searched for some information on the Internet and I came across pennystocks.com website. This site and others claim that they can help you in deciding when to buy and when to sell, how true is that and would it be beneficial to join one of these websites to maximize the profit.

Thanks.

Are they a wise short term investment?
Lets say you have $1000 to play with and you buy some shares for a penny each. When it reaches 2 penny, you sell and then BAM %%% You are RICH!!!!!

Versus you buy something that is $10 dolar a share and dont' get much if it rises by a dollar.

i tried to invest in yahoo finance but whenever i buy or sell stocks there, it doesn't even ask me for my credit card number, etc. it seems as if yahoo finance is just another stock market game.
is it?
because when i invest in stocks using the portfolios in yahoo finance, it doesn't ask for credit card number so it looks like it's not even taking money out or putting money into my actual credit account.
how can i really invest in the actual market? or am i doing something wrong here?
much help appreicated.
