does anyone know a good site to do research on specific sectors and industries?

Yes, I do. There are a couple of good places on the web to do research on sectors and industries.

The one I commonly use is Yahoo Finance. On this site you can research publicly traded companies by sector or industry and they great thing is, its free!! Getting there is quite easy too. Just type Yahoo.com and then select Finance from the topics listed on the left side of the screen. Yahoo is my favorite site but If for any reason you are not satisfied with it, you may want to try Edgar Online.

They apparently have lots of useful industry data (I am not a frequent user, my opinion is based soley on what others have told me). But be prepared to spend some money, Edgar is is a fee based subscription service.

Like Edgar, Value Line is a paid subscription service which provides both company and industry data and analysis. But if you dont mind a visit to your local library, you can get it for free. Most offer the publication at the business reference desk, just ask the clerk.
