I understand the tax interest growth tax free idea, but that seems relatively insignificant to me. My employer matches my 401k, so I see the value of free money, but I don't want to be controlled by government, especially if I can retire earlier than 59.5 y.o. without this plan. Why should I feel good about doing the 401k plan, when many other investment routes give me much more control (from 6 month to 7 year commitments in a wide variety of plans) over my retirement?

Say, now it's May and XYZ company's share price is $50, and I bought its Oct $52 (striking price) Call option at $2.5 (premium). Two months later, if the share price goes up to $57 and I decide to exercise it, I suppose (from many investment books and online knowledge) I will have $2.5 profit per share (i.e., $57 - ($52 strike + $2.5 premium) ). However, I've seen demos on several brokerages' websites (as you can tell I'm new to this) and I'm really confused... By the time I try to exercise a Call option (not as I bought), after choosing 'sell to close' as an action, I will be also asked to enter a 'premium' again; what if the premium has also gone up (say $5 for XYZ companys Oct $52), what premium should I enter (again, upong exercising, not buying)? What's the significance of that premium (that is, what role does it play when I exercise my option)? Because of it, will I profit more? or will I lose part of my profit? Can anybody answer my question? Many thanks!

I have $100,000 in cash and want to know the smartest think to do with it. Some folks say I should pay off part of my home mortgage, which has a $323,000 balance and 27 years left. Assuming that's the smartest thing to do, is it better to decrease my monthly payments, or keep them the same and shorten the length of time that I owe?

By the way, I have no other debts (no car / credit card debt).

I have been investing in a mini cash Isa since 1999, and I have built a pretty good balance (around 30k)...it gives me very good returns (more than 5% tax free) and I am worried that from next year I won't be able to take advantage of this great way of saving and making my money work for me...
Why are they talking about abolishing the Isa?
Are they going to introduce something else just as good?
Thanks for your opinions and informations...

For example - I like a stock and think it will be eventully bought out by a larger player but in the interim I expect the company to issue stock to fund growth - So if I look at a Jan 2008 Call Option at with a Strike Price of $35 -- Does the strike price change if there is share issuance as I expect ? Or am I better off waiting for shares to be issued and then buy an option with a lower strike price ?

I am not talking about going to a casino or playing the lottery. I want to "day trade", which I know is risky, or do some short term type of fooling around. Does anyone know where I can get some commentary and ideas on this? I am thinking of some kind of blog, or some type of club or something. I want this to be fun, too.

I need some good conversation regarding the Economy and Investments in Hong Kong. With Chinese Reminbi devaluating against US dollar, will it affect adversely to Hong Kong export/trading business? How about HK Property investers? Are the residential property values going to drop in Hong Kong? I have 3 residential properties in HK - all under mortgage. I need some serious advise so I can plan to either sell it off or keep up the investment to see a bright future.

I may need further discussion over Finance/Economy/Investments in Hong Kong. Please inform if anybody open for this discussion with me. Thanks.
