I had bought 5 ONGC shares before the bonus share issued (Nov'06). I got only 2 bonus shares in ratio of 1:2 for the 4 shares held? What happened to the 5th share? The price has fallen down.Is than mean, I have to make a loss out here for that share of the original pre-bonused value?

How do I know which one would be the best stocks of the year. i am a university student and have $2000 and I at no cost can afford to lose that money. So please tell me the way the professionals pick their stocks. I need the money to pay off my education for next year and cannot afford to lose it. What numbers do you look at and how do u figure out from the millions of stocks?

Hello all,

My boyfriend is just getting into investing and I am worried that he may not know what the best options are for people our age. I am usually the one who gives him advice on things, but I admit that I don't know much about money matters, and I keep hearing contradictory information about investing as well. Does anyone know a really good book that I can buy him that will cover saving and investment options and best practices for 25-30 year olds? He is working now and also plans to go back to school for an MBA, and I don't want his money worries to get in his way. Thanks!

I've been looking at things such as the balance sheet, cash flow statements ect... In an effort to understand the health of a particular company.

Unfortunately, when trying to reconcile the numbers, in many cases unable to do so. Also they throw in some terms that just don't make any sense or look to hide things.

Are there any good books or sites to explain these numbers?

In China, there're quite some real time stock softwares. Basically they're the same thing. Offer real time quotes, info, charts, VERY detailed technichal analysis.... People can browse, anaylysis and trade with this software.... Is there such a software in America?

I'm a Chinese and would like to get familiar with American stock market from now on. So if there's such a software it'd be of great importance to me. Any stock guru can guide me through this???and how do Americans do stock investment? Do you have a broker do it for you or you do it yourself?

In China we just go open an accountant in a securities company and then trade via the company's system, which get us directly connected to SSE(Shanghai Stock Exchange) or SZSE(Shenzhen Stock Exchange), so in China most investors do the investment all by themselves, There're stock brokers too but they mainly work for companies , not individuals. Unless the individual has REALLY big fund.

Good answer appreciated. TIA

Anyone knows of a site or a tool that would allow me to see the top 50 (or more) most actively traded stocks for a day with a given price range? Yahoo does something imiliar on their finance home site but it doesn't allow a price range nore can you get more than top 15 or so stocks. It just lets you see most actives regardless of the price.

I have an invention I want to submit but don't have the finances, there are roughly 1.9-2.4 million accidents from my research related to my invention, and more that could be prevented that are blamed on other factors. This idea could help prevent at least 40-60% of them, and I am not being unrealistic or over zealous.
I don't want to disclose my idea in the fear it can be stolen. I really want to start approaching auto manufucturers in the hope one of them will be willing to help me with the cost of patenting it and offering it to other auto manufucturers.
I would hire an attorney, but they require upfront payment which I don't have at the moment. I would wait till I have the money, but people are dying every single day.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I also posted this under Auto motive Safety........ Thank You.

I had a 401K with a company I worked for from 2001 to 2002. I left that job due to an injury which later I had to sue the company for my workmans comp money. It was a miserable situation which directly caused me to loose my home, vehicle and everything else I had owned. As for my 401K, could anyone tell me where this money that I put into it went? I never received any notification regarding my contribution. I actually never even thought about it until recently. Did I just lose that money? Thanks for your help.
