I already have. CHN. A closed end fund that invests in Chinese companies. Also invested in it in 2006. There are several reasons. 1. China is growing faster than the U S. 2. The U S dollar is very weak and getting weaker. This is a good move to protect agains the the depletion in value of the dollar. 3. The Chinese government is more focused on their objectives and the country is in a far stronger position financially. That is not the only one that I have invested in. Also TDF, another closed end fund investing in Chinese companies. Also IIF, a closed end fund investing in Indian companies. Also SWZ, a closed end fund investing in Swiss companies. All my bets are not in foreign funds. PENNX is one of my favorites. Also GAM another closed end fund but this one invests where it sees value.

Do not put all of your money into just one fund. Diversify.

I invest in individual stocks because I like to do my own research and build my own portfolio rather than paying a mangement fee to a mutual fund manager. However, years ago I invested in Oakmark Global Fund (OAKGX) because I wanted some international exposure and while I'm not making new contributions to the fund I plan on holding it for the long term. It has a solid track record of consistently beating it's benchmark, provides diversificiation with international exposure (approximately 50% US equities and 50% non-us equities (europe, japan etc.)) and charges a reasonable mangement fee. it's also no-load, no transaction fee.

This year I am going half international and half US. This is a bit high percentage international, normally, but I believe this year that is the way to go.

You need good quality funds that have strong history of performance. Managers with experience is always a good way to go.

My favorite fund (I'm am in 12 funds total) this year is NEWFX. It is a combination of companies in developing countries along with companies in developed countries that invest in developing countries. It also invests a portion in emerging market debt. I love it. That's my favorite fund.

Not sure yet, but I wish some more people would invest in USERX so I could sell it.
