I have an invention I want to submit but don't have the finances, there are roughly 1.9-2.4 million accidents from my research related to my invention, and more that could be prevented that are blamed on other factors. This idea could help prevent at least 40-60% of them, and I am not being unrealistic or over zealous.
I don't want to disclose my idea in the fear it can be stolen. I really want to start approaching auto manufucturers in the hope one of them will be willing to help me with the cost of patenting it and offering it to other auto manufucturers.
I would hire an attorney, but they require upfront payment which I don't have at the moment. I would wait till I have the money, but people are dying every single day.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I also posted this under Auto motive Safety........ Thank You.

Unfortunately, you will have to divulge part of your solution in order to get started. The trick is to give potential investors enough information to get them interested, without giving away the entire idea.

You might also try getting a trademark, which protects your business' approach. This would be effective if you plan to market your ideas, rather than just patenting the invention.

Do you really care about the people dying without your invention to prevent it or just want to make great fortune out of it? No matter what, you have to share your invention with somebody who willing to invest on the cost of patenting. If you really think it will work, 100% working and usable. Mortage your property, borrow from friends, relatives or family. Bet on your patentship which might give you a great fortune. Alternatively, seek government sponsor. I do not know are you another Thomas Estien?

Seems like if your idea is so great, an Attorney would jump at the chance and take payment later.
You can do something I think is called a Poor Man's patent.
You enclose your idea (include all details) in an envelope and mail it to yourself Registered Mail. You will have to sign for it when it arrives, then don't open it. The idea is that the envelope is postmarked with a date and from then on, no one can claim it as their own because you will always have the envelope with the date on it. Something like that.

if it is that good you may be able to go to an attorney (many will give you a free consultation) and they may be willing to help you out on a percentage basis. If the idea makes a lot of money the attorneys fee will be bigger in the end but that is what he gets for taking a little risk up front.

Try contacting a motor company, like Ford or Chevy and asking them, but do not disclose the idea, don't even tell your attorney. A shooting in Chicago happened over a patent.
