I am a little curious about this. Private banks usually loan out their cash deposits to customers at a higher interest rate than they pay out for those deposits. Can a private bank invest this cash deposits in the stock market or any other type of investment? Also do the same rules apply to publicly traded banks?

Are there any distinct disadvantage to buying these stocks for a 63 year old persons IRA? The 15%+ yield is nice, but you pay foriegn tax every distribution ... could that be a problem?

I have recently purchased an index mutual fund (S&P 500). Everytime I buy shares I buy mini-shares in each of the 500 underlying companies. Is there an investment vehical out there that is similar to mutual funds but allows customization of assett allocation within the fund... for example, I realize for the mutual fund to be it has to have a set of stocks. That's fine, now lest say I don't agree with buying stocks from 3 of the 500 I have on my list... I would like to change my assett allocation to such so that zero dollars go to the 3 and the remaining is spread across the rest. I am not sure if ETFs would do this or not... so far I am unaware of how to do this without simply just buying stocks (but then the broker fees will crush me).

We can make an electric generator for cars, homes, factories, etc. It does not require any fuels and has no discharge other then electircity. (no pollution). have several auto manufactors ready to use the power units. several other marketing options ready. This technology is proven in the lab, and third party, and is patented. We need funds to gear up to go to market. When we talk to the actual investor, we can show there is no risk to the funds being invested.

I have Feb calls on a AKS right now. The Jan calls expire today. The stock is up nearly 2% which would usually cause the call options to rise. The Jan calls are up but the Feb calls are all at a stand still, however, their volume is rising quickly. Why are the Feb prices not rising? Does it have to do with the Jan options expire today?
Thank you

I frequently look at www.bankrate.com and www.money-rates.com trying to find the highest paying cd's, however I sometimes find that my local Kentucky area newspapers has ads from local banks that offer as high or higher rates than are shown on bankrate or money-rates.
Example: Right now, Lexington KY Guardian Savings Bank has ad that it is now offering in newspapers 5.60% APY for a 5-month $500 min. CD, and by calling Fifth Third Bank in my town I found 9-month, $500 min., that is paying 5.20% APY..........but bankrate nor money-rates is showing these good deals.
How can I find WHEN local banks are having these good deals, except by checking local newspapers or calling these local banks?
