I smoke occasionally (no comments, I know the risks...). My company charges $30 extra a month for insurance for anyone who smokes more than 1 cigarette a day in the last 12 months. Do you think it's fair to for employers to implement these surcharges? The 3 years I've been working, I've made NO health care claims (none!). I'm 26 very LOW RISK! Why should I pay more than those who go to the doctor all the time?

Where's my work-related stress rebate?

For those judging the smokers..watch out...they'll be after the overweight people next...then those with a family history of cancer...where will it end?

Smokers and other unheatlhy people cut down on the health care expense...they die sooner. It's the old people out there living forever in nursing homes, the gun shot victims in the cities, WIC, and frivolous lawsuits that cost a lot.

If compainies need to cover their costs better, why don't they just raise everyone's insurance by $5?

It seems impossible to get relevant and specific business insurance for the things that really matter - particularly product liability. I have an internet business selling a very wide variety of products/gifts online. My business evidenly does not conform to the criteria that insurers feel are a "nice safe money making bet" for themselves. I work from home until the business is bigger, it sells more than one type of product (not just gadgets/electrical items or clothing etc). A lot of the products are handmade or exlusive. I sell to NAmerica as well as Europe and UK. All of this means I can't get proper prod liablty insrnce cover. So if I can't get insurance, what happens it I continue without it? I have tried so hard over the past year and it just seems impossible, I am not prepared to totally change the business to suite some insurance company, or spend thousands buying a useless policy that covers irrelevant bits when product liability isn't being covered. What can I do?

My husband's mother was contacted by a representive of Banker's Life trying to sell her an annuity that would preserve her assets "for the kids" in case she would need nursing home care.
She is 84 and is nearing the time when she will no longer be able to live on her own. She is not a wealthy woman and I believe any money she does have should go for her care.
Does anyone know anything about this type of annuity?
Costs, penalties for early surrender, is it even legal?

Please help I do not have money for legal advice. He took almost $25,000. and only put the roof on . Who do I report him to?It has been almost a year, does the time limit run out? I am worried sick and without a home. What can I do? He refuses to answer my telephone calls. I know where he lives. About 32 miles from me. The insurance company keeps giving me the run around saying there is nothing they can do? Is this true? The contractor is licensed for $80,000. I had a cerebral stroke three weeks ago and I have a problem reading now but any help is deeply appreciated. Thanking all in advance.

My boyfriend has depression and used to be on Zoloft. I feel he should be on it again however his health insurance plan does not cover mental health services. It seems to be a good plan, what it does cover it covers very well, so I'm surprised it will not cover this. Is this typical?

A friend of mine injured her knee in a fall three weeks ago, and it's still in really bad shape. She went to an urgent-care facility, where they took X-rays. Unfortunately, these were inconclusive, and they said she'd need to see a specialist. She has no insurance. She lives in Florida. What recourse might she have?

Insurance adjuster sent offer letter and referenced in the letter past medical. When asked where this info came from - it was stated it was sent by me. (not true) Then said received from the Index Bureau - there was no written or verbal authorization for release of info. How does this happen? Isn't there a privacy law?

I do not have health insurance available at my place of employment and have to pay $470 per month for a high deductible, bare-bones policy.
I am a 48-year-old female living with depression, Sjogren's Syndrome, fibromyalgia, and restless leg syndrome - all of which are under control with meds. I am active and otherwise quite healthy, and feel 1,000% better than I did when diagnosed a few years ago. (btw, I have tried to get off the depression med, but always crash)
If I knew which of these are responsible for my insurance woes, perhaps my doc could tell the insurance company that I'm "cured" or something......

He is 55, smokes, has had a heart attack, and has diabetes. Please don't tell me how he needs to quit smoking etc... I KNOW THAT. It's his choice NOT to, and I'm trying to figure out what to do before he dies to protect myself. We have health ins. but not life ins. I fear that if he dies, I will lose our home and be destitute. I have physical limitations myself on what I am able to do and can only work a couple of hours a day, which translate into a very limited earning potential.

I know nothing about life insurance. Up until a few months ago, I thought we had it through military retirement. I refuse to lie about his health to get a better rate.
