If you have a 30 thousand dollar CLAIM sitting in your hand, what makes you think a FOR profit insurance company will pay it AFTER the fact??? Like I said, "I wrecked my car, now can I buy your insurance to cover it??"

because the people you speak of in your example, think insurance is a rip-off, until they see the need for it- and then they want to buy it..after the fact--they are ignorant and stupid, and have no clue, as to how business works, esp. insurance companies !! I know this because, i am a retired Independent Insurance Broker for life and health insurance, and spent 23 yrs in the business, and had to explain pre-existing conditions to many people, even, supposedly intelligent folks..great question !!!..good luck to you...

First, let me tell ya this, Insurance is not a charity. They want to make fair profit while keeping cost low. The most major cost to them is CLAIMS and they will not insured anyone who has potential risk of major claims.This is the only way they can provide insurance to other healthy at low cost.
Besides preg. there is another risk insurance company is taking. In most states, by law, they must insurance dependent child (in this case, future new born). and if child is pre-mature born, it cost them hundreds of thousand dollars.
Answer to 1st question, weather u get insurance? I have help people get coverage with this kind a situation but hard to say without knowing what state u r at and what's your occupation.

Because they don't know how businesses work, and they don't understand what insurance is, and the purpose behind insurance.

because you CAN buy it- it won't cover the pregnancy, but the for profit insurers will definitely take your money.
