Health Care

We all know that there are so many medical practitioners especially nurses who are working abroad. The demand for health care providers in other countries became the apple of the eyes of those in the medical field. Even doctors in the country prefer to practice their expertise abroad or take up nursing for them to be able to work in other countries like the US or somewhere in Europe. But with this, is there any hope for the Philippines to improve its health services when it is currently experiencing brain drain?

I work at a hospital and consult with many patients. My floors are really busy and I need to be able to carry along with me a number of papers pertaining to my patients as well as pens, highlighters, business cards, beeper, pamphlets etc. I am always "on the go" at work and need to carry a lot of things right along with me.

---I tried an executive portfolio similar to this http://www.theelegantoffice.com/products.php?cat=55Briefcases%20AND%20Luggage-%3E30Portfolios&mode=detail&index=&page=&email=&item=380
but it's way too bulky on the floor and is constantly in people's way.
---A narrower portfolio is more convenient but gets filled up too quickly.
---A padfolio (like this: http://www.worldtraveler.com/Detail.asp?ProductID=24594)
, is convenient for note-taking, but it doesn't help me organize photocopies I need to refer to.

What organizational system works for you?

I am thinking about going to school to become a medical assistant. I have been in and out of crappy jobs for some time now and I'd like to do something that would at least give me some job stability. Is this profession a decent one? I'm not looking to be rich, just content and steadily employed. Would someone tell me some information about the in's and out's of medical assistants. Thanks for your answers.

I hate being a nurse so I returned to college and earned a bachelors in business management. Upon graduating, I came to the cruel realization that I made more as an LPN than I could at an entry level management position - how depressing. So I've spent the past few years just avoiding both and working crap jobs just getting by. Well now I'm ready to get back in the game and get a good job, but damn, I really don't want it to be nursing - not any hands on nursing anyway. Suggestion please!!

I am 27 & ready for a different career. I would like to get into the medical field and one day become a RN and work with infants. I applied to my local college and the problem is I did terrible in high school and I have never taken the SAT or ACT test so the college is telling me I will have to start out with a mini-certificate in CNA and work my way up. Which is ok with me. But everyone I tell this to is constantly telling me that CNA work is not worth it, it's filthy, dirty work that won't amount to anything. I am getting really discouraged. People keep telling me I should skip all that & go straight into the RN program but I can't. The college already told me that I would have to start with a mini-certificate....even a LPN is a certificate & I can't even start with that. Please provide any encouragements & your advice on how I can get started in the medical field if my only option is to first get my CNA? And what can I expect? Thank you :-)

I was wondering what are the pros and cons of a PA vs an RN. My buddy, who just applied for PA school, is trying to tell me that he'll eventually be able to do surgeries and make more than the average physician. To me this isn't true. I am trying to be a CRNA and wondering if I would have more advantages than a PA? He wants to get into Orthopedics, and I'm just wondering. Money wise who makes more and what does the schooling allow what to do?

Right now I am trying for a major as a Radiology Technician. However, I am thinking about switching to medical assisting because I think it would fare better for my mental health. After giving it some thought, I am not sure if I am comfortable working with terminally ill patients (especially children) every day.
I looked up medical assistant on the Occupational Outlook Handbook, and it had a lot of positive things to say about the field. However, I would like some real world advice before I make the leap.
1.) Do medical assistants really make decent money? ($30,000 and up?)
2.) Is is easy to find a job in the field?
3.) On a scale of 1-10, how fulfilling is this career?
4.) What are some good things and some bad things about this career?

This is a major decision that I am going to have to make soon, so anyone one with experience in MA and who would like to share there experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

LPN first or straight to RN?
I am back in school, finishing my pre-req's for nursing. I won't start actual nursing classes and clinicals until the end of August.
I'm trying to make up my mind - right now I work in an office (but it's a LTC pharmacy so it's still somewhat in the medical profession) and want out of the office environment ASAP, so I was thinking about quickly becoming an LPN and then getting a job in LTC or Hospice and going back for RN, ADN then BSN.
Would this be a mistake?? Should I just tough it out another few years for RN and THEN get a nursing job?
I have mixed thoughts and am looking for feedback. Thanks!
