Contrary to the 150K reported by the previous responder an LPN regardless of experience on average does not make that salary. The average salary for LPNs in the major metro markets are as follows:
NYC: $39.398
LA: $38617
Seattle: $39,477
Chicago: $ 35,628
San Antonio: $31, 096

RNs do make considerably more for example an RN in San Antonio with about 10 years experience makes approximately $65,000 per year (from personal knowledge).

First, it is best not to look at which job is "funner". this is because "funner" is not a word, and also fun is not what work is about. Most people in health care enjoy their jobs because of the sense of fulfillment they get helping other people, and the people they get to work with. There is often some fun at work, but it is mostly about the patients, whether you are an SLP or an RN.

Most RNs leave work very tired and have worked very hard during their often 12 hour shift. If they work with people they like, and have good patients to assist, they enjoy their jobs. But there is also a lot of job burn-out due to stress put on by short staffing and the demands of the position. In general, I would not say nursing is not fun, but sometimes nurses have fun at work.

ive wanted to be a nurse for a long time now...even if there is more money in the speech thing i would go with RN, but you should do whatever makes you happier. try looking at what courses you would have to take after high school and that kind of stuff.

My roommate is a pediatric SLP with 10 yrs. of experience - she makes $73K. An ER LPN in a large metro area with 10 yrs. of experience can make $150K. My roommate loves her job because of the kids that she gets to work with and the love and affection that the kids give back.

BTW, speech pathology has nothing to do with YOU as the practitioner speaking or giving speeches. SLP is the study of disorders that affect a person's speech, language, cognition, voice disorders and swallowing disorders.

Good luck with your career choice.

Speech and Language is where the money is. It's also cleaner and has regular hours.
