I think that I'm glad that there are people willing to do it. God Bless them!

Speaking as a nurse I think it is very hard , hard work but the rewards can be fantastic. To be able to make a patient feel calmer, pain free or happier just makes my day.
Actually I am glad we wear trousers now! Trying to do the manual handling in those silly dresses greatly restricted our movements. Trousers don;t look sexy BUT they are better to work in. Nurses do not seem to have that sexy status symbol that we used to have! As a student i started off wearing the dress, hat, belt and a cape. Thankfully times have changes and we wear no hats, just trousers and a tunic top.
However nursing is changing and in the UK we are becoming more conscious of litigation so we are sadly getting more and more bogged down with paperwork lessening the time we can spend doing what we love...and that is caring for the patients!
ROBERT C.that is awful what happened to your Mother. I can say nothing to ease your pain but i do hope you are pursuing a complaint with the NHS Trust? Each and every nurse in the UK is responsible for the care they give and we are answerable for our actions. We belong to the NMC (nursing midwifery council) and we are bound by strict regulations. I cannot and will not comment on your case regarding your Mother. What I can say is not all nurses are murderers. Some of us respect and admire the people we care for and treat and believe it a privilege to be able to do so. I too was horrified to tears with what I saw on the news about the c-diff and how people were treated. But remember that not all nurses would do that. I for one would have immediately called my union and got the higher up authorities involved.
I work with elderly people and would never treat patients in that way. The day that ever happens would be the day i stop being a nurse...........................

If you have the nature to be a nurse then good. It is hard work, you need good school grades and if you get excepted into uni for a nursing degree it is 3 years of studying and when you get a job it is 4 12 hours shifts day or night.

Nursing isn't just one job. There are many types of nurses, working in many different kinds of healthcare situations. However, all of them enter the profession with the intention of helping others.
We have to remember, though, that they are only people like you and me. They get fed up with the job at times; they may have a private life which makes their working day more difficult; they are prone to making mistakes just like all of us.
We shouldn't put nurses on pedestals, because they then become an easy target to get knocked down.

My mom encourages me to take up nursing but I am taking Accounting instead because I do not like nursing.
The good thing about nursing is that, nurses are in high demand around the world, or at least here in the US.
The pay is good too.

I think the people must be great but they are paid rubish wages and now they are becoming increasingly clueless as they learn how to nurse from textbooks which i think is a load of rubish the best way to nurse and handle the paitents and their feelings (which a text book can't tell you) is to be on the job therefore i liked the old nursing system but no the government seems to disagree and thinks degree's are everything my rant is over now :)

Well, I recently graduated with my BSN, and have been a RN for about 4 months now. So far, I LOVE IT! However, some of my friends did not expect nursing to be what they are experiencing. Nursing is a hard job. Intertwining numerous skills & knowledge together into one. It is definitely an art & science. I love it! Hope this helps!

nursing when chosen as a career should first be a vocation
then a job as this entails caring for sick people.Skills and knowledge may be learned but not caring and compassion...which is the very essence of this profession.I WOULD THEREFORE CALL NURSING THE CARING PROFESSION.......the dollar and pounds comes next.
Fulfillment then comes when you care and see your patients
recover. You have to have that insane goal of seeing all your patients recover and go home.So are you a nurse or you want to be a nurse? I am a nurse and by experience that for me is nursing.

Nursing a baby (breast feeding) I'm not a big fan of, but if you are talking about a nursing degree then that's completely different and I think its awesome to be involved in something that is very helpful and useful in this world.

Nurses are in great demand, and will be. High demand = increasing pay. It's a tough job, but is rewarding personally and financially, and a good nurse will never have any problem finding work.

Yeah nursing is a great profession however, they are being hampered daily by red tape and are being put in places of danger ie MRSA and the new thing out. Government should fix up and clean their environment raising pay or at very least lowering their working hours for the same pay.
