I work at a retail store that sells premium denim, and top quality name brands that are always in. I am 17 years old, and just recently, Alberta has bumped it's minimum wage from $7.00 to $8.00. A month and a half ago, $20 000.00 worth of items were stolen/missing within a 6 month period. My boss had discussed our "raises" with the President and Founder, and he had refused to give us a raise. I am making 7.25$ and hour, when i should be making $8.00. I don't want to quit, because it's a fantastic job and I save hundreds with my 50% off discount. Can anyone give me some suggestions onto what I should do? Considering that i'm just an employee,..

I'm working on a 3 month contract and only a week to go. I haven't liked my job for a few weeks and displayed it in a negative way by not caring much and arriving up to 1 hour late in the morning. Should I quit or just work the extra week.

I'm also leaving the country after this job so it is causing the experience in this country to be soured. I barely enjoy a minute of work during the day.

Today I got a warning about lateness and using the internet too much, even though only a week go to.

It is a fairly well-paid job.

I currently make 42k a year, applying for a job which I'm not exactly sure what the salary would be, but assuming it would be approximately 10-20k more. During a preliminary phone screening, I was asked for my salary and told it to the HR person. I said I expected a raise shortly, and a 10% bonus at end of year. My concern is that she'll try and low ball my salary offer because I probably make far less than what the job pays. So, my question is whether someone's salary depends more on the job itself or the person's qualifications/current salary. And if its current salary, how can i go about getting closer to the market salary. Finance industry (investment banking operations, near NYC) if that helps.

I live in the state of illinois. Does the money that a person recieve come from the goverment 100% or it is 50/50 between the goverment and your previous employer. If you were discharged can the company deny any benefits or how does that work
what is considered a direct violation? i was discharged because i worked at a call center and was accused of dropping calls but that's not true and when i asked them if they recorded it so that i can hear it the company denied me from that and told me the tape was not available at the time

KINDLY LET ME WHETHER THE APPOINTMENT LETTER IS GENUINE. THE LETTER IS NOT SIGNED BY ANYBODY. THE SALARY OFFERED IS USD 15000 PER MONTH/NET AFTER ALL TAXES. I AM ASKED TO PAY usd1450 INITIALLY FOR GETTING THE IMMIGRATION PAPERS. SUBSEQUENTLY ANOTHER MAIL FOLLOWED BY ASKING ME TO PAY usd 3500 FOR WORK PERMIT PAPERS. I HAVE FORWARDED THE LETTER TO ZENITH BANK FOR AUTHENTICATION, BUT SO FAR I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION. APART FROM THIS SALARY, THERE ARE SO MANY PERQUISITES AND BENEFITS. HOW TO KNOW WHETHER IT IS GENUINE OR NOT.

I have a manager at work who keeps saying he is a lawyer

Howeverm he is a manager of a debt collection company

We find it annoying, because he is not a trading lawyer anymore, he is a manager!

He keeps reeling of legal terms and he is a training officer for the debt collectors, he tends to waffling on about legal stuff and it is very boring to listen to!

Who would find this an annoying character?!

I posted a similar question a week ago, but I missed some details about me and the true nature of my inquiry. As I mentioned, I have graduated a private American liberal arts university in my country (which is Bulgaria) and I am currently working for the investment banking department of a local medium-size bank. I won from the green card DV lottery and if everything goes normally and as planned (hopefully), I think that will be leaving for the US in August 2008 as the latest time possible. My previous question was, “What are my chances of getting a job for some of the largest inv. banks in the USA (and the world), such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Solomon Smith Barney”? Some of you gave me an advice to start working for some of their offices in my country. Unfortunately none of those inv. banks have offices in Bulgaria. Moreover there is no single institution in my country, which could call itself an investment bank. Those services are performed by the investment banking departments of commercial banks and by small financial brokerage firms, as none of them could call itself a “major player”.
I think that I have not posed the question in the right way. It is clear that my chances of getting such a job will be low. I would rather want to ask you, what I can do in meantime to increase my chances for success? Can you recommend me any books, web-pages or something similar containing information on the whole process of applying for an inv. bank from the initial CV to the final interview? Is it possible to contact the US offices of those inv. banks even before I physically arrive in the USA, right after I receive the immigrant visa? They will not be able to interview me, but I can still make some tests or whatever over the web. As some of you mentioned, the CVs of all foreign applicants do resemble each other. They have graduated unknown university and have worked for unknown employer. What do you think would contain a CV, which would set apart a foreign applicant if not from the US applicants, but at least from the other foreign applicants? I visited some world conferences on Business and Economics and published a paper with my Finance professor, but I don’t think that this will matter that much to them.
I know that it fill be extremely difficult, but I think that if someone constantly pursues his dream sooner or later it happens.

just started this job & I was hired to eventually be the supervisor of the office. Well it has been a rough couple of weeks adjusting to the new job & I vented about the current boss & just the job to an employee that has been there for many years & who was basically passed over for the promotion to supervisor (for which I was hired). This person was reprimanded today for telling me she wanted to quit, & I told management, but today instead of her a tongue lashing from the owner, she blurts out about what I wrote on a blog. She did not give details, but she basically said I posted a blog about the current supervisor. I am wondering if when they do actually fire her, will she let it all out? I went and spoke to the supervisor about this & was up front about EVERYTHING, & the supervisor told me that this is the norm of what this person does. She tries to avoid any responsibility by focusing on others. I am afraid she will give all info when they do decide to fire her. Any advice?
