It's clean. If it was worn beyond being tried on, it's been cleaned/washed. It's neatly folded, and usually in that store's bag, with a receipt. There are politely stated reasons for the return.
Almost all of the time, all I want back is store credit/an exchange.
I'm apologetic.
Yet, returning stuff seems to be about the worst thing to do in a regular clothing store.
Why?
And, for the ones that aren't so simple -- eg, the dye runs to ridiculous extent and stained stuff that rubbed against it/the fabric pills like mad; garbage after one dinner out/it looks nice but the lining is made out of toilet paper/etc -- does anybody want to hear that, or is it always just: yeah, uh huh, let's get you out of here asap?
From the reactions, I'm guessing there are a lot of people abusing 'satisfaction guaranteed.' What do I do to make it obvious that it's not a regular habit for me, that a good return equals loads more of my business, etc?
