Why is it that people will ask why you believe in god when they believe in the big bang? where did the gases come from in the first places?

I'm not christian or anything, (reincarnation, don't believe in satan, believe in god...) but my 7th grade science teacher was a sunday school teacher, and she taught us about the big bang. That kind of got me thinking.

I'm not asking what you believe, or why you believe it, I'm just looking for you to refer me to a professional philosopher who does. If you are a professional philosopher, feel free to direct me to your own book, although i doubt I'd find one on yahoo answers.

I was thinking of the emotion love--but the sadness wouldn't occur at the same time of the happiness.

In other words, to what extent (if any) are beliefs and ideals self-created/societal cures for deep-seated phobias?

For example:

Fear of being alone = ideals of freedom, independence, friendship
Fear of pain = ideas of “evil”
Fear of death = belief in immorality

[My purpose is to address mental/emotional survival without fear, ignoring physical survival. Also, although I welcome all opinions, this is intended more as a philosophical and psychological hypothetical, rather than a religious debate.]

"Objective" is something that is undistorted by personal or emotional bias, but yet are we capable of keeping such things 100% out of any interpretation we're likely to make in our lives? I have my doubts - I think we can get very, very close, but not 100%. How about you?

Physically or mentally.

What can I do?
Something like this:

A friend of mine has been jumping out of this hole everyday.
& every other week or so he digs it deep so he can jump higher.

What can I do that's so unique?
