In other words, to what extent (if any) are beliefs and ideals self-created/societal cures for deep-seated phobias?

For example:

Fear of being alone = ideals of freedom, independence, friendship
Fear of pain = ideas of “evil”
Fear of death = belief in immorality

[My purpose is to address mental/emotional survival without fear, ignoring physical survival. Also, although I welcome all opinions, this is intended more as a philosophical and psychological hypothetical, rather than a religious debate.]

The question is based on what I think is a false premise
I do not fully agree that we create some good thing because we fear something bad will happen to us if we do nothing to prevent it. On it's face it seems reasonable and sound. But that would imply that fear is the best motivator to get the best solutions to our problems.

love of individuality = ideals of freedom, independence, and friendship.
love of health = ideas for preventive health
love of life = belief in immortality

There is a saying that perfect love casts out fear. I believe a positive outlook on life is the best source for a mental/emotional stability in any person or society as a whole. Even to the point of making laws that will help us to survive as a species here on this earth.

Of the three, I think that the first would be the best cure.
The second seems another fear in itself.
The third is only a "belief" & not necessarily sustaining.

Don't you think the first explains itself? Freedom, independence & friendship can overcome fear of being alone.
I'm not quite sure that any are "ideals" in the most realistic sense. Nope. The first could very well be! Even in a deep seated phobia, one can learn--with guidance--to open doors & no longer feel alone. The "ideal" being the three things you stated.

Note: [i] doesn't seem to understand your question. You didn't state there is a man without fear, but asked what the cures might be, right?

I believe that a man with no fear would still have ideals. In fact maybe his ideals would be the strongest because they weren't motivated by fear.

I would say that most ideals aren't rooted in fear. Freedom is not rooted in the fear of being alone; freedom is rooted in the belief that one is not to be controlled by another. Maybe actions themselves are rooted in fear but not the ideals behind them.

I know it is stupid to say that I don't fear things, but I don't fear much. I'm not afraid of death, does that stem from a belief in immortality or does my belief in immortality stem from an inherent fear of death.

Look at Jesus, using him even if he wasn't a deity. He preached ideals even under persecution. So was his fear leading him to preach to others?

In closing I would say it is only the fearless that actually bring ideals to the forefront of humanity.

I believe a man with no fear has beliefs and ideals. Fear is learned or taught ( it's a feeling.) Belief and ideals are from our creator! I feel our conscience

Fear, according to some is the number one enemy of Man. I've read some authors that alluded to fear as the mind killer. I've noted that some confuse fear with being scared, or edgy. There seems to be a range of feelings all associated with fear, but vastly different in source. Such as fear of heights, very real, palpable to those who suffer from it, vs the black death fear that can be sudden and fierce when a 122mm Chicom rocket goes over your head in the night. Fear never comes alone, and is usually uninvited. Fear can be overcome, but it requires living through the onslaught of terror that fear delivers, and having the will to develop the antidote to fear, that would be courage. Courage is always in short supply, while fear is everywhere and the coin of the realm as far a the various faiths are concerned. Fear can just be hell. Misplaced courage can get you dead. My favorite survival skill honed by these two opposites is guile. ta ta.

The man (or woman) who had no fear would be a dead man (or woman). Fear is to keep us safe.

However - Yes, people who do lack fear also tend to lack religious beliefs.

By the way the fear of death is not a phobia. Phobias are an irrational fear and death is the turminous and we all get there. So it is a very real event. Unlike the fear of a mouse - I cannot remember hearing of any person being savaged to death by a mouse.

To have no fear, none all at, the being would know only love.
So to me, yes most assuredly that one would live true to that.

To have only love in mind and in heart, one would live a great life, an easeful life, a life of true knowing and belief.
Ideals are subjective, this I am not sure about.

Peace in the heart
Bright blessings

Cool question....
As soon as you mentioned that the first thing that popped into mind was Daredevil a man without fear not even death itself feared him.
I think their belief would be that they are fear or that what is there to fear if you live a fearless life or something to that affect.Or they would belief why fear something when you can become the fear I know if I was without fear I would want to be the fear to isolate myself b\c of who I am.
Hypothetically speaking of course.Id luurve to be without fear man it'll be cool!!!
But they say that fear is the base of all things we link our beliefs on whether it be life, religion or ourselves.

I hope you got someting out of this that makes sense, Ive never really been good at getting my point out as clear as I would like.

These ideas of fear and the suggestions that it is resonate with ideals and beliefs is resonate with survival instinct and behavior. Out of survival is divinity is evolved, and out of fear is survival aroused. But if such states where an organism is the independent, and rid of fear, relinquished of pretentions, the organism tries to trigger a theater where it is dissonant and therefore surprising that the fear the organism lost ripped the chains that bound it to the world in which fear was the supreme.

gender? I have no fear because of my belief and ideals. It works for me so it gives me peace on Earth even though my country is at risk of total destruction due to others fears.
