Dr. Oliver Wendall Holmes once laid out the dictum that the key to longevity was to have a chronic incurable disease and take good care of it. Even now, 150 years later, this works. If you have chronic arthritis, you are likely to take a certain amount of aspirin most days of your life, and this may reduce your chances of dropping dead from coronary thrombosis. When you are chronically ill, you are also, I suppose, less likely to drive an automobile, or climb ladders, or fall down the cellar stairs carrying books needing storage, or smoke too much, or drink a lot...

This question has been posed to a friend of mine doing a philosophy course.

"You're walking down a road on your own wearing your new, expensive leather trousers which you can't remove on your own.

You come across a child in a pond who is drowning.

What do you do?"

Arguments for jumping in and helping and arguments why not to jump in and help would be appreciated

Why do people become this way? Is there a way to get back on track?

If want to know about me read some of my other questions. I usually a hard worker and goal oriented. Now I don't give a crap about anything. I don't feel bad about how I treat people or my education. It's not like me at all, but what can I do? I use to ahead of the class and very nice. Apathetic. A few human beings interest me. Most people are atificial. I need discipline maybe?

The Apathy Anonymous meeting was canceled due to lack of interest. lol

I read somewhere that everyday god writes a new chapter for us and nothing has been decided before , but i think every thing is pre planed and is destined to happen at correct time . for eg Britney Spears was destined to sing a song called ' baby one more time' , well what do you think is it all pre planned or each day a new page is written in the our book of life by god .

Today's college students are more narcissistic and self-centered than their predecessors, according to a comprehensive new study by five psychologists who worry that the trend could be harmful to personal relationships and American society.

"We need to stop endlessly repeating 'You're special' and having children repeat that back," said the study's lead author, Professor Jean Twenge of San Diego State University. "Kids are self-centered enough already."

The standardized inventory, known as the NPI, asks for responses to such statements as "If I ruled the world, it would be a better place," "I think I am a special person" and "I can live my life any way I want to."

"Unfortunately, narcissism can also have very negative consequences for society, including the breakdown of close relationships with others," he said.

The study asserts that narcissists "are more likely to have romantic relationships that are short-lived, at risk for infidelity, lack emotional warmth, and to e

Him and his cohort have a film in which they claim to have found Jesus's family tomb. Ths film and the reserch behind it are totally lacking any scientific basis. Do you think that this study missing that scholarly process really support a strong conclusion that jesus was married and had kids. Do you feel this makes James C a nut? Why/Why not. Sorry I will not accept answers that attack religion, this is purely a science question.
The scientific method, which is the backbone of all true science was not used in this so-called investigation. Does the total disregaurd for the nature of true science relegate James C to Nut status? Is any study that does not follow the scientific method valid? I want to hear your answers.

would you date him hoping to become attracted to him or what would you do?
I met this guy and he's a christian like myself...we both are serious about our christianity..he really likes me and thinks I'm his future wife...I think he's a great guy, has excellent values and he cares a lot about where his spiritual life is heading...overall a great guy...except that physically I don't find him attractive... I feel bad about this. I don't want to seem superficial but shouldn't there be physical attraction in a relationship too?? Doesn't that matter? what would you do?
