Under the doctrine of absolute pre-determination, society cannot hold us responsible if we decide to get drunk and our actions result in an automobile accident. Such incidents would have been part of a chain of causality that originated with the beginning of the universe. If we have no Free Will, there can be no responsibility and no punishments. Society could not exist.
The speculation that we have no free will defies common sense and our everyday experience of life. With the intervention of free will, our future, and thus the future of the universe, will follow a path different from the path it would have pursued without our intervention.
In addition to scientific considerations, common sense insists that Free Will exists. Who would deny that we have Free Will when we put one foot in front of the other and decide, of our own volition, of our own Free Will, to go for a walk or not go for a walk this afternoon? It is clearly irrational to believe that a chain of causality (pre-determination) at the time of the Big Bang determines if we go for a walk this afternoon, or not.

I'd argue to the contrary, fellow blind man. It's all random...I believe the Creator simply set all this mess in motion. If indeed he is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, then he MAY manipulate events, but I don't think the Creator narrates each little mundane event in all our lives. Why would he narrate the fall of man from grace? Why narrate suffering and pain? Why narrate disease in a newborn child? God gets a lot of credit for the evil that men do and takes the fall for alot of the unfortunate things that happen to us all.

look, i am in no position to prove what i am about to say,. but heres what i think: i dont believe that there is any such thing as destiny, kismet or under any other terminology... i believe that every person lives every single day in his/her own unique way, after decisions THEY made and after a long line of chain-reactions that have brought them through life towards the present day. the very existence of destiny would instantly over-rule free-will coz it would mean that whtever u choose wasnt chosen coz u wanted to, but coz thats simply what was written that you would choose. it gets complicated after that and it all leads to one conclusion... u either have free will and freedom to live ur life as u wish or u have a bunch of ants in an antfarm, on display for the bully kid who decides when to smash the farm into pieces and let them all out or to drown the whole thing in the toilet and flush....

If you really believe that why did you ask the question, weren't you sure. Or was it destiny for me to find your question and answer it telling you that you are totaly wrong and that you have your choice in everything. Maybe God knows what your choice is going to be, that doesn't mean that it is predestined to be that way.
The same if I ask a five year old what he would like, broccoli or a candy bar. I know the answer will be the candy bar, but he does have a choice to go for the broccoli.

I am not sure if there is a such thing as fate or a such thing as free will. Perhaps there is a plan laid out before us and we are given a finite number of choices to make within that plan. So does that constitute free will? The only way we can use our free will is to create. We all like to assume we have free will but unless we use it makes no difference.

You make your own destiny by investing in yourself by learning new things and perceiving life more positively to find happiness. The concept of destiny entails 2 absolutes, where you are now and where you will end up or want to be. Where you are now is where you are now. Where you want to be is up to you and how you get there is mostly up to you with some variables. But you trying to get to where you want to be is your choice. Nobody writes your horoscope except you as long as you live your life with truth as the cornerstone.

Yes, I think our lives are pre-destined. We're an open book, and everyday is a new experience.
Don't you ever wonder that we're not real, but we're all in somebodys head, and that person is just dreaming? And once he wakes up, then we're all gone? Poof, just like that. Scary, that we have no real control over our lives.

There is no god unless you choose to create him in your mind and give power unto him, then you're giving away your chance of making your own decision and making the best you can of your life, every day. It's in your hand to choose your own destiny or be slave to a fairytale.
