The Soviet Union was a murderers alley for years, either by the Great Purge of Joseph Stalin or even the Napoleon failed campaign in the 1800's. Germany obviously made a mistake invading this country. They could have never won, even if they weren't at war with Britain, USA and Canada. But...what if Germany's full military might was against the USA, Britain and Canada. Keep in mind, in all likelyhood half of all American manpower and weapons were available for the war against the Japanese. With this in mind, is it possible for a German victory in the West against the Western Allies? Yes, the Battle of Britain was a costly loss for Germany but surely if the Germans had the full power of their air force against Allied convoys in the years 1942-43, this may have proved a decisive victory over the Western Allies? Supply problems would have meant Allied defeat no? The British and Americans would have had tremendous difficulty planning their D-Day without the necessary aircraft, tanks, etc?

People today do not often say it, but at the time may people blamed the Allies for not preventing the holocaust event. I am well aware why they could not, and can understand the desperation these people wish to blame. However, I just want to check that no one else still blames the Allies for not preventing it sooner...Sensible answers only please.

I am an avid historian, a lot of my posts on here are all about history. I want to ask, without any irony or maliciousness, whether, like me, WW2 is a more interesting event to study as a social changer, rather than 9/11. I am not insulting nor mocking losses from either event, merely asking a serious question.

the very fact that USA brought about the cold war on them selves deserves close study with view to modern events.

I ask the question because I know many Americans applauded his "reform" of Germany not realizing what he was actually doing. I have looked for actual quotes about how American leaders felt at the time, but was unable to find any. Does anyone know where I can find specific quotes about how the American public/leaders felt?

My question may not be true to you, tell me what you think. =)

I will always choose the best answer, it's my question and a best answer can differ from my own view if it's well reasoned. Also, all forums attract a greater proportion of *bunny boilers* than are in the general population, i ain't going to let that be a factor
