I bought an antique jewerly box yesterday. It has brass inlays on mahogany, and the design on the front is a brass lotus. The mirror on the inside is deteriorated and heavily weather, but it's painted on and glass was put in front of it. I assume that it's a antique by the unique mirror. Any guess?

The Election of 1992:
a - showed that one issue such as dealing with the diease AIDS could make the differences in a presidential race.
b - showed that a president who led the nation through war was unbeatable.
c - was a 3 way race where in the weeks before the election, it appeared any of the 3 could win.
d - demonstrated that despite leading the nation through a popular war, the president was vulnerable if the voters were concerned about the economy.

Europe has only soft wood trees.
The ships made of those woods are good for sailing the
Mediterranean or a smaller sea. They are no good for
sailing on the oceans.
Which country has the trees that provide
the hardest wood? India.
Hard woods like devadar, teak and mahogany
are native to India.
Rig Veda mentions ships with 100
oars. Such ships sailed over seven oceans and returned to
India. In the Artha Sastra,
Koutilya wrote about the Board of Shipping and the
Commissioner of Port who supervised sea traffic.
The Buddhist Jataka stories wrote about large Indian ships
carrying seven hundred people.
The ship of Vasco de Gama was about
to collapse when it reached India. It is the Indian marine
engineers who repaired that ship and made it worthy again
for sea travel.
The main item exported by the former British East India
Company was Indian ship. A few of these ships are still in
service, and are used for training cadets of the British
Navy. Can any one dispute this?

Making of iron is known to many, but not difficult steel.
The Rig Veda mentions about steel. Archeologists found earliest
evidence for the manufacture of steel in
South India. History says that when Alexander visited India
with copper swords, the Punjabis presented him a steel sword.
The Arabians used to make a lot
of money by selling Indian steel ingots to Europe. In
1746, the queen of Britain had sent a scientist named
Benjamin Hauntsman to India to obtain the secret of making
steel. Hauntsman stayed in India for some years, went back
to Britain and submitted a report to the queen. Some
historic records say that he did not write the main secret
and he started his foundry in his native town. How the
secret reached Henry Bessemer is unnecessary for us
because his process was essentially the Indian crucible
method of making steel. Another Indian contribution to
industries in Europe was the process of casting. The
frames of machine tools of that time were made of wood.

In 16 and 1700's, what gave the colonists the idea to buy slaves, to bound and control them for laborers, when most colonist came to America so they could have a better and more free and productive lifestyle, yet become masters over other human beings destiny? Was it their european background, even though most never owned a slave in Europe, yet here these pioneers come and instill in a colony state, the attitude of enslavement. Power over other men. Then later to fight against taxation without representation from their sovergn King? It seems as if the colonist wanted their cake and ate it too and be damned their background and morality, pray on sunday against oppression from the British, yet whip and have slaves do much of their labor here for gain and power. What are your thoughts on this? The first slave was thought to have arrived in Jamestown Virginia, around 1615. Was that person transported from England and was this the start of slavery in America?

Did the founding fathers and signers of the Declaration debate or even consider to free slaves or mention them in the writing or the Bill of Rights. If they had, maybe we not had all those 100 years of slavery perhaps and no civil war and 300,000 military dead. If the issue was discussed, then was any of it documented, if so where could that be located at. Not homework, I am way too old.

Several years ago i read a book by Clive Cussler where a guy finds a cave holding a vikinng fleet and the nautilus from the book.

All though this was surely a fictional book, a close friend told me that there is some evidence that there might have actually been a sub the story was based on.

While most of the story was surely made up, you also have to take into fact a few things that the book stands out about.

Nuclear sub: the nuclear submarine didnt come into affect untill after World War II (50's or 60's)

the technology

all of this was writen in the 1800's but yet it described a ship that was about 70 or so years too young.

Is there anything that supports there might have actually been this ship?
