Hollywood movie are hardly ever about teaching the public anything - it's all entertainment, and the faster, the better.
Films such as Alexander and the more recent one have nothing to do with Greek, Persian, or other ancient cultures and our understanding of them. All people (especially on the "Heroes" sides) talk like Americans, and, more importantly, think like Americans. There is nothing historic about these movies apart from the geographical settings and the costumes. No attempt is made at understanding the cultural gaps that exist between ancient and modern people.
Intellectuals are aware of this. The rest just go there to enjoy the action and eat the popcorn. Not much you can do about that.

Because you're asking the Americans on Yahoo! Answers. As an American, I haven't met a single person who isn't aware of the fact that there were Native Americans here before European settlers arrived. That being said, I think that the idea that the land was "empty" when they arrived is more or less true when you consider what the settlers saw. By their definition of civilization, there was no civilization in the Americas. You forget that you have to judge history in it's own context. You can't judge history by the morality and norms of today.

Hollywood plays fast and loose with all history, not just the history of any particular region.
Anyone who gets their history solely from movies is a hopeless moron.

Hollywood is looking for the quick buck. If that means playing around with history, they'll do it. You haven't been singled out.

No way. Their media is very powerful. they will make sure that the real matters happening in middle east never reaches the other part of the world. We need to have our own media - al jazeera has already started. we need to have more and more media on our own. holly wood - its a tinsel world. they do anything that attracts money. if it will help bring money if they show a community as oppressors they will be doubly happy to show it.
