I bought an antique jewerly box yesterday. It has brass inlays on mahogany, and the design on the front is a brass lotus. The mirror on the inside is deteriorated and heavily weather, but it's painted on and glass was put in front of it. I assume that it's a antique by the unique mirror. Any guess?

You might also ask someone who specializes in antiques. If you know the period - at least roughly - it shouldn't be too difficult. Is there an auction house where you live? Or a university? As I've said in another answer... Historians can be quite helpful.

u need to look for any makings on it. They ought to be some sought of stamp on it. Once you find that you can figure out who made it by look it up. Otherwise you need to do more research and look at a book of antiques or on line for pictures of other j.boxs. You have to be careful though because some people take old mirrors or fittings and attach them to newer pieces. your best bet is to find a picture of it that looks like it and go from there. good luck. cheers
