I can easily find numbers on how many people were killed, but its not as easy to find numbers on how many survived.

I need to know the total number of people who were in the camps and survived them.

Sources too, please. Thanks!

I finally watched the movie Anna & the King(1999) with Chow Yun Fat & was very pleased to see the story finally in a more positive and slightly more realistic tone- Thailand has had bans against all of the stories that followed due to the historical innacuarcy and porteyal of King Mongkut. Even the 1999 film failed to get approval by the Thai government. My question is...

How many people actually know that the story that is always told is as inaccurate as it is?(Due to the portreyal of it as complete truth)

(Side note: I do realize that the films and musicals all came from books, and Anna's diary)

we are a country of SETTLERSand FOUNDERS....america was a vast empty space with minimal peoples who were content to live off the land subsistently...northern european protestants came here looking for religious, and governmental and monetary opportunities that were not available in the old world under the type of monarchies, tyrants and rulers they had...
our whole nation was FOUNDED by people who related to what was wrong with those societies in europe and determined to make a better one here...based on the rule of law, which is based on the bible..even though our country has no state sanctioned religion...yes..it was brutal at times..pushing "native" peoples out of the way and annexing parts of the continent from france, spain and fighting britain for freedom, fighting mexico for the southwest, and basically stealing alaska from russia for a song...this is what a country must do to survive ....or...we could all be speaking spanish or french right now with their societies mores...

In watching Steven Spielberg's "Into the West", there's a scene where Native Americans on a reservation were being guarded by a regiment that included African American soldiers. Can anyone help me find any materials on the interactions and relationships between Native Americans and African-Americans and/or Slaves.

It's been over 100 years since the Jack the Ripper murders took place, but people are STILL coming up with theories and suspects. People have suspected, among others, the Duke of Clarence, Montague Druitt, Aaron Kosminski, and the artist Walter Sickert. Do you believe that ANY of the named suspects is the guilty party, or do you think that the Ripper theorists aren't even close? Why?
